Honeywell 956RPT

The Honeywell 956RPT is a recessed rolling plunger switch with screw terminals used to protect doors and windows from intrusion. The 956RPT features Honeywell’s exclusive Staggered “T” terminal contacts. By staggering the terminal screws along the body of the plunger switch, Honeywell was able to make them larger and therefore easier to use. All Honeywell Staggered “T” recessed contacts are easy to handle and easy to install.

The recessed rolling plunger switch is more versatile than the Honeywell 955PST plunger switch because it has a rounded actuator. If you used the 955PST to protect a normal door, the edge of the door would hit the side of the plunger switch when the actuator was popped out. Therefore, you would not be able to easily close your door and you would most likely damage your 955PST. However, with the 956RPT, the edge of the door rolls over the rounded actuator and closes easily while depressing the plunger switch.

Honeywell recessed plunger switches are easier to install than standard recessed contacts because you don’t need to install a separate magnet. The 956RPT operates as a Form A, SPST, normally closed switch that is controlled by the actuator. When the actuator is depressed, the 956RPT is in a closed state and when the actuator is popped out, the 956RPT is in an open state. The 956RPT has a contact rating of 100mA at 24VDC.

You will need to drill a hole with a 3/4” diameter to install your Honeywell 956RPT recessed rolling plunger switch. As the body of the rolling plunger switch is not long, you don’t need a very big hole. Pull your zone wire through the hole and land a wire into each of the staggered terminal screws on the 956RPT plunger switch. Then, simply press the 956RPT into the hole until it’s flush with your door or window frame. Only the actuator should be sticking out from the frame. When you pull the door closed, the edge of the door slides over the rounded plunger and pushes the actuator down. If you install it in window frame, the actuator can also be depressed by the window sliding down into place. If your security system is armed, and someone opens the door or window being protected by the Honeywell 956RPT recessed rolling plunger switch, the actuator will pop out and an alarm will be triggered at the alarm control panel.
