One important thing to consider about this wiring is its thickness. This is 22-gauge wire, which is slightly thinner than the 18-gauge wire that is also frequently used with alarm systems. Some installers say that this gauge wire is easier for them to maneuver and work with. The trade-off though is that 22-gauge wire cannot be used in longer wire runs in order to power devices, as it loses electrical current faster than thicker 18-gauge wire.
