Security Cameras
One of the best ways to monitor your home or business is through video surveillance. This is the optimal method for seeing exactly what is occurring whenever you are away. Our customers have used their security cameras in a variety of different ways, including catching intruders who broke into their store, checking to see if their children got home safely from school and even just to make sure their employees were doing their jobs at work. Regardless of how you decide to use your security cameras, there’s no better way to learn the full story of what has happened inside your home or business.
Most security cameras are designed for use with a particular interactive security service, such as Total Connect or Alarm.com. When deciding on a security camera, you will want to make sure that it is compatible with the service that you use with your setup. In order to integrate the camera with your network, you will need to get it online in some way. This is usually done through WIFI or a hardwired ethernet connection. Once your camera is online, you will contact your alarm monitoring company and have them integrate the camera into your network using the MAC address and the CRC code for the device.
Security cameras come in a variety of different styles, with some being better for certain applications than others. For example, some security cameras are more rugged and feature a weatherproof design that makes them ideal for outdoor use. However, other security cameras are not designed to stand up to heavy dust or moisture, and they should only be used indoors. Security cameras also have different vision capabilities, and some may be better for certain lighting environments than others. If you need help deciding on which security camera to purchase, our support team will be happy to walk you through the process.
A big part about using a security camera is setting its recording schedule. Some users will adopt a continuous 24 hour recording schedule, while others will only have the camera operate during certain times of the day to cut down on video storage. A common option is to have the camera trigger based on motion detection. Many security cameras come included with a built-in motion detector that will allow it to start recording whenever the motion sensor is activated. This can be very useful, as generally the only time you will want to use the security camera is when there is motion that has been detected.
Once your security camera has been fully installed and integrated with your setup, you can adjust its settings and view its live feed at any time through Total Connect or Alarm.com. Whichever service you use will serve as the central hub for your security cameras. If you capture any particularly important video that you would like to save, you will be able to download it for future use right from Total Connect or Alarm.com. Users generally find that this is very convenient for getting the most out of their security cameras.
