Enrolling the 2GIG SP2 in Access Point Mode

Hi, DIYers. Joey from AlarmGrid, and today we're going to talk about how to enroll your SP2 keypad to your GC3 using the access point mode. Now, this is a cool feature on the GC3. What it allows the GC3 to do is to propagate its own Wi-Fi network. This is super convenient if you're installing a GC3 in a location that doesn't have a Wi-Fi network there, as it will let you enroll your Wi-Fi keypads directly to the system using the access point in the GC3. When you're using this mode, you can still use the GC3 cellular communicator to have it communicate with alarm.com, and you can get all those great features that you get with that service. The only downside to using the access point mode on the GC3 is that you won't be able to use the Wi-Fi communicator for it to communicate to alarm.com. So if you are looking to have it set up in a dual-path setup where it's going to use Wi-Fi and cellular to communicate all of its alarm signals and other signals out to alarm.com, you won't be able to use the access point mode at the same time. With that said, though, let's set up the access point on the GC3, and then let's connect our SP2 keypad to the system. So we're going to click on our 2GIG symbol. We're going to enter our default installer code, 1-5-6-1. We're going to click on Network Settings, and then Access Point. I'm going to hit the toggle switch to enable the access point. It says that it successfully started, and you'll see that we see our network name, our password, and the IP address. I'm going to click Save Access Point Settings, and as you can see, it says, "Wireless Access Point started successfully." So I'm going to click OK, and now I should be able to join my SP2 keypad to the system. So I've already powered this up. The first thing that I'm going to do is, I'm going to click-- after I get enough slack-- I'm going to click Refresh. And as you can see, the first network here is 2GIG GC3, and that is our SSID on our 2GIG GC3. So I'm going to click that, and then it's going to ask me for the password. And as you can see, the password is 9-5-4-9-3-3-5-0-9-5. I'm going to click Next. It's going to connect, and now it says, "Enter the IP address of the master panel." So on our GC3, I'm going to click the back arrow. I'm going to do it again. Then I'm going to do System Configuration. I'm going to click on Keypads. So I'm going to click on the menu on the right-hand side to get into our Edit. I'm going to do Keypad Used. I'm going to say yes. Equipment Code-- I'm going to click the hamburger button here and select the SP2. And then Device ID-- SP2 is not connected. I'm going to click Pair. So now the system is listening for the SP2. I'm going to click the check mark on this menu. Now it says, "Enter the pairing key from the master panel." I'm going to click check, and it says the keypad is successfully paired. So when you see that menu that says "Enter the pairing key from the master panel," just click the check mark, and you'll get right through it. Back on our GC3, we don't have to do anything with the Smart Areas assignment. Equipment Age won't affect anything with the system. Emergency Keys has to do with whether or not you want the panic keys on the SP2 to function or not. And then the Voice Descriptor is the way you can name the keypad. So if I want to name it a wireless keypad, I just load it up and do Wireless Keypad. Click Done and then Return to System Configuration. You can see this is highlighted, showing that we did make some edits. So we're going to click Back. Confirm Changes, which is all the stuff that we just did in programming. I'm going to click Save. And once we're back on the main menu, and I click OK, now the SP2 is actually reflecting what's on the GC3, and it is communicating with the system over the access point feature.
