Setting Up Automation On the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus
Description
In this video, Jarrett teaches you how to set up automation functions on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. This mostly involves adding Z-Wave devices to the system. This system has a built-in Z-Wave Plus card for this purpose. You can control automation devices from the panel or from the Alarm.com platform.
The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus is a great system for automation. You can easily pair Z-Wave devices with the system to make your life easier. Any paired Z-Wave device can be controlled from the IQ Panel 2 Plus itself, or from Alarm.com if the panel is activated for monitoring service. The panel offers both LTE cellular and WIFI for connecting with Alarm.com. This dual-path connectivity is great, as it ensures fast and reliable connectivity with the Alarm.com servers.
When adding a Z-Wave device to an IQ Panel 2 Plus System, you will want to first exclude it from the network first. This is done to ensure that it can pair with your network successfully. Many Z-Wave devices are paired with a network before leaving the factory for testing purposes. Clearing the device from the network will wipe out any existing data and make it possible to complete the pairing process. From there, you can enroll the Z-Wave device with your network and adjust its settings accordingly. The Z-Wave device will be available both at the panel and from Alarm.com
The real convenience of having Z-Wave devices paired with the IQ Panel 2 Plus comes from the ability to control the devices remotely using the Alarm.com Mobile App. This app is available for free download for any Android or iOS device, and it allows you to access your IQ Panel 2 Plus System from virtually anywhere. By accessing Alarm.com, you can arm and disarm your system, check system status, control Z-Wave devices, and more. You can even establish scenes for your Z-Wave devices so that they activate automatically based on a set schedule or with certain system events.

Hey, DIYers. Jarrett with Alarm Grid here. Today, we're going to be discussing how you would setup automation on the Qolsys IQ2 Panel 2 Plus system. You can always set up automation on the system anytime you want to. The normal process of doing so is just putting the system into an inclusion mode and then adding the Z-Wave device into the system. And you can set it up to where you can control it either locally in the Panel itself, or you can control it remotely through alarm.com. Now, later in this video, we are going to be covering the steps on how to enroll the Z-Wave devices into the Qolsys Panel, but just wanted to recap real quick about the-- or about alarm.com. If you did want to use that, then you do have to make sure that you have a good cellular connection in your area. The reason why is because the Qolsys Panel has a built-in cellular communicator. And in order to be able to use alarm.com, you do have to have a good cellular connection with the system because alarm.com requires their alarm systems to use a cellular communicator. So to be set up with that, you do have to be with a monitoring service, and then they can set everything up to be able to use alarm.com. Now, if you wanted to set up an automation device on the Qolsys Panel, there's a couple of steps to do so. First, you're going to have to exclude the device from the system, or in general, in order to make sure that it does have or will have a good connection with the system. And the next step is doing the inclusion process and making sure everything is working correctly. So in order to start, the first step is to do the exclusion, as I explained. So what you would do is, on the main screen is you'll tap the gray bar at the top. And you're going to get the drop down. So you're going to tap Settings. Going to go to advance settings. It's going to ask you for a code. So you're going to either use the dealer code or the installer code. Now, the installer code of the system, the default one, is 2 2 2 2. And then you're going to go to installation, going to go to devices. You're going to go to zero devices. And this is going to take you to the menu where you want to set up the automation, or set up the Z with devices. So to exclude a device, you'll just have clear device, and it's going to put the Qol System to the exclusion process. Now, when you are setting up different Z-Wave devices, a lot of Z-Wave devices have their own way of being excluded and included. So if you're not sure how to do the exclusion process on your system, then I would suggest checking out the installation manual or what they do provide for it so you can be able to exclude the equipment correctly. Now, the reason why you would want to exclude the Z Wave device is because whenever you get new Z-Wave devices, sometimes they are paired with a system for testing reasons so-- to make sure that everything is working correctly. So when you do receive it, you want to exclude it so that you make sure that it's not trying to connect back to the previous system that is completely excluded from any devices. So that you can make sure you don't have any issues with programming it to your Qolsys Panel. So the steps you want to do, as I already showed you, you're going to press clear device, and it's going to bring up the exclusion process. So now we're going to put the-- our Z-Wave thermostat in the exclusion process. So just tap menu, press the side button to go to Z Wave setup, and then you're going to press exclude. And it has been excluded from the network successfully. So now we've excluded the Z-Wave thermostats from the network. So the next step is to include the Z Wave device to the Qolsys Panel. So as you can see, we do have the successful window that we have cleared the Z-Wave device from the network. So you're just going to tap OK. And then to include the device, you're going to press add device, and then press include. Now, it's going to put the system to the inclusion process so it's looking for that Z Wave device. So now what you're going to have to do is start the inclusion process on the Z Wave device so it can connect to the system. All right. So now we're going to start the inclusion process on the Z-Wave device. So you can tap menu, and you go to the right until you see Z Wave setup. Press Select, then you're going to press set control. And then you have successfully included Z-Wave device. So now we've successfully included the Z-Wave device. And as you can see, we have the ID right here. We have the type, which is thermostat. And then we have the name, which is thermostat, as well. Now, if you did want to change the name, you could just tap the down-- the dropdown and you have custom name-- downstairs, hallway, upstairs, thermostat, whatever you wanted to name it. And right now for this video, we're just going to keep it as thermostat. And once you have confirmed that you changed the information as you want to, you'll just press Add. And you can see that it has been included with the system. Now, if you did have other Z Wave devices enrolled, you'll see them all in this little device list. As of right now for this video, we're only programming the Z-Wave thermostat. So once you've confirmed that all of your Z-Wave devices are included correctly, you'll just hit the house button to take a big-- take it back all the way to the main screen. Now, once you've enrolled Z-Wave devices, the one things you definitely want to do to make sure that everything is communicating correctly with the system is do a network rediscovery. Now, network rediscovery, basically, it confirms that all of the Z-Wave devices have a good connection back to the Qolsys Panel. So to run a new-- network rediscovery, what you'll do is just tap the gray bar at the top of the screen. You're going to go back into settings. You're going to go back to advanced settings. And you're going to retype in either the dealer code or the installer code. You're going to go to System test, Z Wave test, and you're going to see rediscover network. Now, if you wanted to run the network rediscovery, you'll just tap on it, and then it will take you to this menu right here. You have the Z-Wave devices on the left side. And if you wanted to run the network rediscovery, you have the button on the right side. So you just tap on that, and it's going to run the tests. So if everything has run successfully, and everything is communicating successfully, it's going to tell you rediscovery ended. If there were any issues with the Z-Wave devices or anything, it will tell you in the status side of it, so at least you'll know exactly what's going on. Now, once you've done the network rediscovery, stop on the house button to take you back all the way to the main menu. And that is how you set up automation on the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus.
