500-Feet 22/2 Solid Core Alarm Wire
Anyone with a wired security system knows the importance of keeping alarm wiring around. You never know when you may need to add a new sensor or repair some existing wiring. You will be glad that you kept some extra wire around for when you need it most. The great thing about wiring is that it is so versatile, so you might use it for more than just your home security system. And that's perfectly fine. Use our cabling however you see most fit.
If you are new to wiring, you might be confused by what 22/2 means. The first part, 22, refers to the fact that this is 22 gauge wire. And the second part, 2, refers to the fact that this is 2-conductor wire. Therefore, it is 22 gauge, 2-conductor cabling. In the world of security systems, 22 gauge, or 22 AWG, is thinner wire than the most commonly used 18 gauge wire. But some users prefer using 22 gauge wire, since it is more flexible and sometimes easier to maneuver and work with. The downside is that thinner wire does not for allow for as lengthy of wire runs as thicker wire. But for a smaller home or business, that may not be very important. You can determine wire thickness by the gauge. The higher the gauge, the thinner the wire.
You will likely need to choose between 2-conductor and 4-conductor cabling when shopping for alarm wire. The reason why 2-conductor cabling is great for alarm systems is because you will never have any loose, unconnected wires. You can use 4-conductor cabling in-place of 2-conductor wiring, but two of the inner wires in the 4-conductor cable will be left unconnected. Likewise, you can use 2-conductor wiring in-place of 4-conductor wiring. You just need to double-up the 2-conductor cable so that there are a total of four (4) inner wires. Keep in mind that if you double-up your 2-conductor wiring, then there will be 2 black wires and 2 red wires. Make sure to properly label your wires so that you do not mix them up or confuse them.
You might think that 500 feet of wire will last a long time. And depending on your circumstances, it may be all you ever need. But if you go through wire quickly, you might prefer to get a 1,000 foot role of wire instead. Keep in mind that this is solid core copper wiring. We generally find that stranded wiring is easier to work with. But if you prefer solid core wiring, them we have it here for you.
