Dialer Capture Plug-In Module

Installation and Setup Guide

General Information

The PRODCM Dialer Capture Plug-In module is intende
d for use
with the LTEM-P series communicators. The module is
used for
control panels that do not support Resideo ECP data

communication, but that send Contact ID alarm signa
ls via the
control panel's TELCO dialer.
The module simulates the phone service to the contr
ol panel
and captures the Contact ID messages from the panel
's phone
line, then passes the signals to the communicator.
The
messages are then sent to AlarmNet for routing to t
he central
monitoring station via the Internet or cellular rad
io network.
Compatible With:
LTEM-P Series Communicators – Quick Installation Gu
ide P/N

R800-26393 or higher
.

icator

Operation
The following summarizes the operation of the Dialer
Capture module when an event occurs:
a.

When

an

event

occurs,

the

control

panel

goes

off

hook

to
dial the central station. The PRODCM module detects
the
off-hook condition and provides the control panel w
ith a
dial tone.
b. When the control panel detects the dial tone, it
begins
dialing the central station number. After the phone
number is completed, the PRODCM module returns a
handshake to the control panel.
c. The control panel then sends the reports to the
PRODCM
module, which in turn passes them to the LTEM-P
communicator. The PRODCM module kisses off each
report received successfully from the control panel.

d.

The communicator then transmits the messages to the
central station via the Internet or cellular radio n
etwork, as
applicable.
e. When all the reports are sent, the PRODCM module
goes
off hook.
f. If the PRODCM senses a fault (fails to communicate
with
the LTEM-P), it will drop the phone line voltage to
provide
the control panel with a Telco fault.

Installing the Module in the LTEM-P Series Communic
ators

Ensure that all electrical power is removed from th
e communicator before installing the module. Unplug
the
power supply and disconnect the backup battery.
The Dialer Capture module plugs into the LTEM-P
communicator's main PC board.
1. Power down the communicator and disconnect the b
attery.
2. Install the Dialer Capture module by mating the
module's
connector to the edge connector on the upper right
side of
the communicator's PCB. Make sure the module is ful
ly
seated in the connector. Slip the module board unde
r the
snap tab to lock it in place as shown below.
3. Connect the control panel's Telco Ring (R) and T
ip (T)
terminals individually to the terminals on the Dial
er Capture
module (module terminals have no Ring/Tip polarity)
. See
diagram.
4. After installation, refer to the Installation Gu
ide for the
LTEM-P communicator to complete its connections, if

required. When completed, power up the communicator

then reconnect the battery.

Do not connect the outside phone line to either the

Dialer Capture module or the control panel. There
should be no connection to the outside phone line
when using the Dialer Capture module.
For replacement installations, make sure to disconn
ect
the outside phone line when using the Dialer Captur
e
module with the communicator.

Control Panel Programming Notes for Dialer Capture
After the Dialer Capture module has been installed,
make sure
the control panel is programmed for the following:

Dialer operation is set for DTMF Tone Dialing for
each phone
number (pulse dialing is not supported and must be
disabled
in the control panel).

PABX field is disabled (the Dialer Capture module
does not
communicate through a PABX).

Phone numbers and account numbers are programmed (
to
ensure the maximum number of messages can be
transmitted to the central station before a communi
cation
failure occurs, ensure the control panel is program
med with
a primary and secondary central station number).

Report format is set to Contact ID for each phone
number.

The maximum number of retry attempts is programmed.

Desired zone and partition reports are enabled.

!
Additional Notes When Using the Dialer Capture Modu
le

The Dialer Capture module supports only one-way
communications (from the control panel to the centr
al
station). For those control panels that support two
-way voice
communications, speakerphone, paging, follow-me, et
c.,
these features will no longer be available. The con
trol panel
must be programmed for one-way communications only.

Since Dialer Capture module supports only one-way
communications (from the control panel to the centr
al
station), the Resideo Compass Downloader cannot be
used.

In the event the communicator loses power, the mod
ule
would not be able to generate a fault trigger to th
e control
panel and set an alarm. In this case, after the pan
el has
exhausted its redial attempts, a communication failu
re is
displayed by the panel (you may have to scroll thro
ugh the
messages).

The Dialer Capture module cannot sense a fault on
the
Tip/Ring side. However, during an alarm, if the mod
ule
cannot forward the alarm, it will trigger a fault a
nd disable the
phone line. The phone line will be re-enabled after

communication has been re-established.

If the Dialer Capture module senses a fault, it wi
ll send a
Trigger signal to the control panel zone (if wired
to a zone). At
this point the module will also drop the phone line
voltage
and will not provide a dial tone to the control pan
el. During
this time, the control panel will make retry attemp
ts (8 for
residential, and more for commercial) to dial out a
nd send a
report. Until the control panel has completed the s
eries of
retry attempts it will not be able to detect a Telc
o fault. To
minimize the wait time, for control panels that all
ow setting
the Telco Fault detection time, please set it to th
e minimum
detection time.

For control panels that may generate erroneous Tel
co fault
conditions based on grounding, turn off "Telco Faul
t"
monitoring at the control panel.

If the dialer capture module receives a communicat
ion path
failure from the communicator, the module will drop
the
voltage and thereby disable the phone line. If Tel
co Fault is
enabled in the panel, the keypad on the system will
display
the fault. When the dialer capture module receives
a fault
clear condition, the module will re-enable the phon
e line. The
panel is notified of all other faults if the fault
output of the
communicator is wired to a zone on the panel.
