Testing the 5800CMBO
V

Overview

The 5800C
MBOV

is a wireless Smoke and C
arbon
Monoxide

Detector combination unit

that
MUST

be
in “Functional Test Mode” in order to detect canned
S
moke or CO gas.

This Step
-
by
-
Step explains
the two different
test
modes on the 5800C
MBOV
, and
how to

perform
them
.

Alarm Test

The Alarm Test can be used to test the wireless signal path, learn the detector
s serial number

into the
control panel, and verify programming in the control by sending an alarm condition. If you use this to
learn it into the control panel, be sure to remove the unit off the base and separate them
,

as the tamper is
magnetic and the magnet can still

engage the tamper switch if they are close enough.

Smoke
Alarm
Test

o

Press the Smoke Test Button for 1
-
2 seconds
,

then release
. It will s
peak

“Smoke sensor
is good. Battery life is at least XX months. The Alarm will now sound in 5 seconds.
Press “TEST”

to cancel.”

o

If you
do not press test to cancel
, it will
sound its Temporal 3 alarm and
send a

Smoke
Alarm

signal to the control panel.
The status LED will blink once every second. The Side
LED Windows will stay dark.

CO

Alarm

Test

o

Press the CO
Test Button for 1
-
2 seconds
, then

release
. It will s
peak
“CO sensor is
good. Remaining CO life is at least XX months. Battery life is at least XX months. The
Alarm will now sound in 5 seconds. Press “TEST” to cancel”.

o

If you do not press test to can
cel
, it will sound its Temporal 4 alarm and send a signal to
the control panel. The status LED will blink red once every second.

The Side LED
Windows will stay dark.

In normal operating mode the 5800C
MBOV

Smoke Detector
is sensing for a
ny

combination of Smoke,
Heat, Gas, and Flame

for instant detection. The Carbon Monoxide detector is sensing for PPM of Gas
molecules for a specific amount of time.
The “Functional Test” mode

disables these algorithms and
all
ows it to trip inst
antly

with canned Smoke or canned CO.

If canned
S
moke or CO
is

to be used to test the unit,
the 5800C
MBOV

MUST

be in “Functio
nal Test”
mode
.
I
f not in the

Functional test

mode and a single particulate (i.e. canned smoke) is the only i
nput to
the detector, an alarm will only occur after 5 minutes of alarm level particulate exposure. The same would
apply for the CO detection portion of the unit. The concentration of CO would have to meet the PPM for a
duration before the unit would go in
to an alarm condition. The reason for this is the complex algorithms
incorporated to detector to reduce nuisance alarms.

Functional Smoke Test

o

Press and hold the Smoke Test Button for 3
-
5 seconds or until it states “
The detector is
now in smoke
system test mode. The smoke sensitivity level is X.X%. Warning! A smoke
test signal will be sent to the panel and an alarm will sound. The detector is now ready
for smoke entry. Press “TEST” to cancel.”

o

It will be in this test mode for 20 seconds. The
g
reen

Status

LED will

begin to

flash once
per second (20 times). During this time, spray compatible smoke into the chamber to
generate an alarm. The status LED will blink Red once every
10
second
s
, Side LED
Windows will blink Red once every second, and w
ill sound Temporal 3.

Check
instructions on the smoke can for spray distance.

Compatible canned smoke: Home Safeguard Industries 25S, SDi CHEK02 and
CHEK06, SDi SOLOA4, and SDi SMOKESABRE.

o

The detector will stop beeping once the chamber is clear.

Functional CO Test

o

Press and hold the
CO

Test Button for 3
-
5 seconds or until it states “The detector is now
in CO system test mode. Warning! A CO alarm signal will be sent to the panel. The
detector is now ready for CO gas entry. Enter gas

or press “TEST” to cancel.”
