MX Wired Zone Expander for Qolsys IQ Pro
Description
The DSC HSM3105 MX Addressable Zone Expansion Module allows a user to add MX addressable devices to the Qolsys IQ Pro. This module is supported on IQ Pro panels only. It connects to the 4-wire Corbus of the IQ Pro. Without this important piece, no other MX devices can be used.
The HSM3105 is what allows the IQ Pro to use MX expansion and provides the physical connections that all of the addressable MX devices require to operate. It will allow the connection of up to 124 MX addressable loop devices. The HSM3105 has four (4) terminals for the MX loop. This allows you to set it up in either a 4-wire loop configuration or a 2-wire spur configuration.
The 4-wire loop configuration starts at one set of (+) and (-) terminals on the left side and terminates at the other set of (+) and (-) terminals on the right. The 4-wire loop configuration is best when using the MX920 line isolator modules because it allows the largest number of devices to continue operating in the event of a short. The 2-wire spur configuration uses the left and/or right set of (+) and (-) terminals and terminates in the field at the last device. Configuring the HSM3105 is done via the IQ Installer app, which is available as a free download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

The HSM3105 has mounting options inside of the metal enclosure IQ Pro, but only when used in low-power mode. For the IQ Pro with plastic enclosures, or when the HSM3105 is used in high-power mode, you must use an external enclosure. The HSM3105 must be installed within 3ft of the IQ Pro using 22 AWG wiring. In low power mode, the MX loop gets its power from the Corbus. This provides a maximum loop current of 67mA@40V (360mA@11.3V or 325mA@12.5V).
To use the HSM3105 in high power mode, you must use either an HSM2204 or an HSM2300 power supply. The power supply then becomes the power source for the MX loop. Using the HSM3105 in this mode requires a separate enclosure. The HSM3105 must be installed within 3ft of the IQ Pro using 22 AWG wiring. It is designed to handle a maximum allowable MX loop current draw of 400mA@40V (1600mA@11.3V or 1500mA@12.5V). But high power mode using an HSM2300 or an HSM2204 can only provide up to 228 mA @ 40V (1000 mA @ 12.5V) or 260 mA @ 40V (1000 mA @ 11.3V).

To enroll the HSM3105, the panel must be powered down and then wired to the Corbus with a 4-wire connection less than 3ft in length. All other MX devices should be wired at this time. Then the system is powered up and configured using the IQ Installer app. Then, you go to Installation > Devices > Security Sensors > Add Device "+" > Auto Learn + MX > Start Auto Learn. This enrolls all of the MX devices connected to the HSM3105. And each MX device can be configured individually if the default settings are desired to be changed.
This is also when you can configure either a 4-wire loop or 2-wire spur configuration for the HSM3105. Select Installation > Devices > Security Sensors > MX Module > Configuration > Bus Configuration > select Spur or Loop configuration. The HSM3105 also has two tamper connections. These can be used if you want to add a tamper switch to the external enclosure. If mounting in the metal enclosure, it already has a tamper for the IQ Pro panel. It can not be mounted inside the plastic enclosure that houses the IQ Pro.
When adding multiple MX devices to the HSM3105, installers must be sure to use the Current Load Calculator tool to determine the current loading on the MX Loop. Then they must check out the MX wiring limits document to ensure you stay within specs. Be sure to check out these tools in the planning stage of your IQ Pro MX addressable setup to ensure you will not be over drawing your MX loop.
