A dual-path communicator facilitates both IP and cellular monitoring for an alarm system. In most cases, the system will rely on IP (ethernet) connectivity for communicating with Alarm.com. This is because IP monitoring is typically faster than cellular connectivity. But IP is also more likely to do down than cellular connectivity. As a result, having cellular backup for the panel is very important.

In this case, the communicator will connect with the AT&T LTE Cellular Network. This LTE network will provide fast speeds and reliable connectivity whenever internet service is unavailable. AT&T has stated that they plan to support their LTE network well into the very distant future.
