GE 14294

The GE 14294 Z-Wave In-Wall Smart Dimmer lets you turn your lights on and off and adjust their brightness from anywhere. Nearly any in-wall light dimmer can be replaced with this dimmer switch to give you smart control over your lights. It is easy to install and pair with a Z-Wave network.

Most end users will have no problem installing the GE 14294 smart dimmer. It might seem intimidating to install your own light switch, but it's actually quite easy. Simply take out the existing in-wall dimmer, and connect the GE 14294. The module fits into a single-gang bracket. It comes with a wall plate to make the installation tidy. Make sure to cut power at the breaker before attempting to install the module. From there you should pair the device with you Z-Wave hub. It is important to exclude the device before attempting to include it with the network.

It's important to note that you only need to connect a traveler wire if you plan on using the device with a multi-switch setup. This will also require the GE Add-On Switch. With this device, you can achieve a 3-way or 4-way setup for your lights. You will need to purchase the GE Add-On Switch separately. Another option is to consider a different manufacturer. You can always use the GoControl WT00Z5-1 Z-Wave 3-Way Smart Switch with the GoControl WD500Z5-1 Z-Wave In-Wall Dimmer or the GoControl WS15Z5-1 Z-Wave In-Wall Switch. This will also let you establish a proper multi-switch setup.

You must take load into consideration when using the GE 14294. The max load for Incandescent is 600W (single-gang), 500W (dual-gang), or 400W (triple-gang). For dimmable CFL/LED, the restriction is 300W. Keep this in mind when planning your lighting setup. Remember, the maximum range for Z-Wave Plus devices is about 100 feet. A Z-Wave signal can make four (4) total hops on its way to its intended destination. For best results, use the GE 14294 with a Z-Wave Plus controller. You can use it with a standard Z-Wave controller, but this will decrease the range.
