GoControl WD500Z5-1

The GoControl WD500Z5-1 is a Z-Wave in-wall dimmer switch from Nortek. This Z-Wave Plus device replaces a regular in-wall dimmer. It offers ON/OFF and dimming capabilities for your lights. The device adds to a Z-Wave mesh network and strengthens the connectivity of other Z-Wave peripherals.

Most end users will find that they can easily wire-in a WD500Z5-1 with their lighting setup. Please note that a Neutral connection will be required. A trim ring helps ensure that the installation is tidy and aesthetically pleasing. The device will fit into a single-gang socket without issue. Make sure to cut the power at the breaker when installing the GoControl WD500Z5-1.

As a Z-Wave Plus device, the GoControl WD500Z5-1 offers an extended range when used with a compatible Z-Wave Plus controller. It can also be used with a standard Z-Wave controller, but it will offer a much more limited range. The range when used in a proper Z-Wave Plus network is approximately 100 feet direct line of sight between the WD500Z5-1 and the next Z-Wave Plus device. A Z-Wave Plus network will allow for up to four signal hops, so keep that in mind when planning.

If you are installing a 3-way Z-Wave lighting setup involving the WD500Z5-1, you will also need a GoControl WT00Z5-1 Z-Wave Smart 3-Way Switch. You can use multiple WT00Z5-1 Switches to control multiple load bearing devices like the WD500Z5-1. The GoControl WS15Z5-1 Z-Wave Wall Switch can also be included in this setup.

Other features for the WD500Z5-1 include security beaming and built-in auto-sense. The maximum load is 500 Watts, and only permanently installed lighting fixtures are supported. The input is rated at 120V 15A 60Hz. Any firmware updates are sent automatically from the Z-Wave Plus controller. Adding the device to your Z-Wave network will allow you to control it remotely through an interactive service platform like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com. A monitoring plan is required.
