Honeywell 5899

The Honeywell 5899 is a magnet for the 5816 wireless door sensor and window sensor. While Alarm Grid actually ships the 5816WMWH door and window sensor, which includes a magnet, with every purchase of a 5816 sensor, some companies offer the 5816 wireless contact by itself. Therefore, if you need just the magnet to go along with the wireless sensors, you can get the 5899 magnet by itself. The Honeywell 5816 wireless door and window sensor can be ordered in brown and therefore, you can choose the Honeywell 5899 magnets in white or brown. The brown magnets have a part number of 5898BR instead of 5899 for the white magnets.

When using the 5899 magnet with a 5816 wireless contact, make sure to install the magnet so that it is not further than 1/2” from the contact when the door or window is closed. Also, make sure to align the magnet along the long side of the wireless contact that has the magnet alignment marks etched in the plastic case. In addition to the (2) magnet alignment marks on the side of the 5816 contact, the mounting plate for the 5816 also has a plastic strip that can act as a guide for installing the magnet. The 5816 has an internal reed switch that is positioned on the side with the alignment marks and if you install the magnet on the wrong side, the wireless sensor will not function properly. In fact, the zone programmed for the 5816 wireless door and window sensor will remain faulted until the magnet is properly aligned.

The Honeywell 5899 magnets is ideal for venting a window that is protected by a 5816 wireless window sensor. Typical window sensors protect a window only when it is fully closed. However, some people like to protect their windows even when they are open just a few inches to allow some airflow. The only way to accomplish this is to add a second magnet. If you install the 5816 wireless window sensor 3-6” from the bottom corner of your window, then you can install one magnet at the bottom corner of the window and a second magnet the same 3-6” up from the bottom corner. Once installed, the window is protected in both positions (fully closed and opened 3-6”). As the 5816 wireless window sensor only includes (1) magnet, you will need to buy extra 5899 magnets to vent your windows.

Even though the 5899 magnet is designed for the 5816 wireless window and door sensors, you can use them as replacement magnets for other door and window sensors as well. The magnet is 1.5” long, 1/2” wide and 1/2” deep so it is slightly larger than the typical magnet that would be found with a wired door and window contact. You may want to only use the Honeywell 5899 magnet with a wireless door and window contact.

In addition to the magnet that is included with every Honeywell 5899 purchase, you will also get a plastic spacer which you can use to properly align the magnet with the corresponding sensor when the door or window frame is not flush with the door or window.
