Honeywell 5899B
Small Magnet for Wireless Door and Window Contacts
Description
The Honeywell 5899B is a small magnet for a Honeywell wireless door and window sensor. The 5899B magnet is similar to the Honeywell 5899 magnet but it is slightly smaller and has rounded edges. The Honeywell 5899 works well with the Honeywell 5816 wireless door and window contact, while the 5899B works well with the Honeywell 5815 and 5820L wireless door and window contacts.
The Honeywell 5899 magnet is available in white and brown because the 5816 wireless door and window contact is available in white and brown. However, as the Honeywell 5815 aesthetic wireless contact and the 5820L slim line door contact are both only available in white, the 5899B magnet is only available in white. The 5899B is a great choice for people that don’t want their Honeywell wireless security system to detract from their home’s decor. The 5815 and 5820L wireless door and window contacts are designed for that very same purpose. Unlike the bigger 5816 contact which has sharper edges, the 5815 and 5820L contacts have a smaller profile with nicer looking rounded edges. The 5899B magnet measures 1.5" x .5" x .75" or (38.1mm x 12.7mm x 19.05mm). It matches the style of the 5815 and 5820L contacts and also has the smaller size and rounded edges. You may want to consider the 5899B magnet when looking for a replacement magnet for the Honeywell 5814 wireless small door and window contact as well. The main feature of the 5814 wireless contact is that it is very small, so the 5899B magnet is a good choice to match the style of the 5814 contact.
The 5899B magnet is not only a good option when you need to replace a broken or missing magnet, but it is also useful when venting your windows. Venting a window entails adding a second magnet to a window that is already protected by a Honeywell wireless window contact. You need to add a second magnet when venting, so the 5899B is a better choice than the 5899 since it is smaller and less obtrusive. To vent the window, you simply install the 5899B magnet 6” above the original magnet for the wireless window contact that is protecting your window. You will also need to move the wireless window contact up 6” so that it is in line with the 5899B magnet. With this setup, your window will be protected when it is closed and when it is slightly open. Venting is useful when you want to allow some airflow into your home while still protecting your family from intrusion. You will be able to arm your Honeywell wireless security system while the window is vented, as the wireless window contact will be in line with the second 5899B magnet and therefore the zone will not be in fault.
