Honeywell DT8050

Dual Tec Motion Sensor

Average rating:

(based upon one review)

The Honeywell DT8050 is a hardwired dual-tech motion sensor that uses both PIR and microwave detection technologies. Both its internal PIR sensor and its microwave sensor must be trigged for a fault to occur. This prevents false system alarms. Buy the DT8050 Dual Tec Motion Sensor here.

Description

The Honeywell DT8050 Dual Tec Motion Sensor is a hardwired motion detector that uses two types of detection sensors. In order for an alarm to occur, both its PIR sensor and its microwave sensor must be triggered. This is perfect for reducing false alarms in case only one sensor trips.

A dual tech motion sensor like the DT8050 simultaneously uses a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor and a microwave sensor. The PIR sensor functions by sensing the change in infrared energy that occurs when a person or object comes into its field of view. Meanwhile, the microwave sensor will send out continuous signals and note how these signals return to the sensor. If the signal pattern changes, then the sensor will recognize that there must be some type of movement in the area. A hardwired zone will only be faulted if both the PIR and microwave sensors are activated. Both sensors can be individually adjusted for sensitivity. For the PIR sensor, this comes in the form of a pulse count, while the microwave sensor can have its range adjusted.

The DT8050 offers a detection range of 53 feet by 72 feet. This is perfect for larger rooms and open spaces. For best results, it should be mounted at a height between 6'9" and 8'9". The ideal height is 7'6". The device also includes an LED light for testing and troubleshooting purposes. A zero-clearance bug guard prevents insects for disturbing or tampering with the device. Uniform sensitivity optics provided from a fresnel lens ensure consistent detection across the coverage area. Dual slope temperature compensation ensures that the PIR sensor will work regardless of the ambient temperature.

Note: Alarm Grid also offers the DT8050A with anti-masking, the DT8050A-SN for V-Plex polling loop panels, and the DT8050M with mirror optics in addition to the standard DT8050.

Great Dual-Tec Motion Sensor

We strongly recommend the Honeywell DT8050 as a hardwired dual-tech motion sensor. This sensor is good if you want a motion detector with a larger coverage area than the Honeywell DT8035, but you don't require the advanced features of the DT8050A or DT8050M. The Honeywell DT8050 fills its niche quite well. That is why we give it 5 Stars.

The Honeywell DT8050 is a dual-tech motion sensor. This means that it uses passive infrared (PIR) technology and microwave signals to detect movement. Unless both the PIR sensor and the microwave sensor for the DT8050 are triggered, the sensor will not activate and alert the system. This is good for preventing false alarms in many situations.

When compared with the DT8035, the DT8050 offers a much larger coverage area. The DT8050 has a coverage area of 72 feet by 53 feet. The DT8035 only offers a coverage area of 56 feet by 40 feet. However, only the DT8035 offers pet immunity. But if you don't care about pet immunity, and you need to cover a larger area, then the DT8050 is usually the way to go. A good way to think about this is that the DT8035 is more commonly used in residential locations, while the DT8050 is more commonly used in commercial locations.

Although the DT8050 lacks the more advanced features of the DT8050A and DT8050M, it is more affordable. The DT8050A offers anti-masking to prevent potential intruders from applying a reflective substance to the lens to defeat the sensor. The DT8050M offers mirror optics for improved accuracy in detecting motion. But if neither of these features benefit you, then the DT8050 is a more affordable sensor. It will detect motion quite reliably and cause no false alarms when used properly. Our technicians find that the DT8050 works very reliably and that it is a great hardwired motion sensor.

Bottom line, if you need a hardwired Dual-Tec Motion Sensor for an industrial location, but you don't need any advanced features, then the Honeywell DT8050 is a good option for you.
