Honeywell Home Coverplate

The Honeywell Home Coverplate is a mounting plate made specifically for the 5800SMOKEV, PROSIXSMOKEV and PROSIXHEATV smoke and heat detectors. These detectors have a smaller form factor than many other wireless smoke and heat detectors. The Honeywell Home Coverplate allows for a cleaner installation.

The circumference of the 5800 and PROSIX smoke and heat detectors is a mere 14.25 inches (36.19cm) with a 4.5 inch (11.4cm) diameter. This is potentially smaller than an older smoke or heat detector that you may replace with the PROSIX version. For this reason, the Honeywell Home Coverplate can be installed over the foot print of the older smoke or heat detector, to cover any screw holes or old paint that might otherwise show once the new, smaller smoke or heat detector has been installed. The diameter of the Honeywell Home Coverplate is 5.8 inches (14.7cm).

The Honeywell Home Coverplate has a sticker that says WARNING! DO NOT REMOVE GASKET. This refers to a gasket that comes with the coverplate which helps to minimize airflow around the base of the smoke. This reduces the chance of The Stack Effect, which can interfere with smoke detector performance. The Stack Effect occurs when there is airflow in the ceiling or wall cavity that the smoke detector is mounted on that negatively impacts the entry of smoke into the optical sensing chamber. The potential for the Stack Effect is greater around junction boxes or larger mounting holes where airflow may be greater. The included gasket helps to minimize airflow, and thus the chances of this issue.
