Honeywell IS335
Pet Immune Motion Detector
Description
The Honeywell IS335 is a pet immune passive infrared (PIR) motion detector. The IS335 is a wired motion sensor which makes it compatible with any wired alarm control panel, not just Honeywell. The IS335 replaced the discontinued Aurora pet immune motion. The IS335 is a bit more compact and aesthetically pleasing. Unlike the Aurora, the IS335 has selectable pet immunity which means it can disabled if needed. The detection area is 40 feet by 56 feet and it should be corner mounted between 7 and 9 feet from the floor. This motion interfaces with the SMB-10 swivel brackets or can be screwed directly to the wall.
The IS335 requires a 4-wire connection: a pair for power and a pair for data. It draws up to 12mA @ 12VDC and generally lands directly on the keypad bus of the alarm system. For VISTA panel, this is the ECP bus that powers keypads and any other powered devices like Glass Break Detectors. The data connections should be set on a discrete zone on the panel. Wired motions can technically be wired in series to have multiple on a single zone but we do not recommend this. It can make it very difficult to diagnose false alarms and eliminates the ability to know which motion was tripped during an alarm.
Pet immunity can be tricky. Cats and larger dogs can still trip this motion detector due to specific behavior. Keeping the motion out of direct sight of furniture or stairwells that your pets may jump on is ideal. In other words, pets may trip this motion if it is not isolated in a mostly empty space. Active cats and dogs can confuse the PIR technology into thinking that their IR profile is close enough to the shape of a human. Just keep this in mind when building your system and consider using glass break detectors.
