Honeywell MPS5

The Honeywell MPS5 is a 1/4” diameter recessed contact with leads used to protect doors and windows from intrusion. Connect the MPS5 to an open zone on your alarm control panel using (2) conductor alarm wire and if the security system is armed, an alarm will be triggered every time the protected door or window is opened. You can order the MPS5 in your choice of white or brown. If you choose white, the part number is MPS5WH and if you choose brown, the part number is MPS5BR.

The MPS5 recessed contact is a smaller contact than most Honeywell recessed door and window contacts. While most recessed contacts from Honeywell have a 3/8” diameter, the MPS5 has a 1/4” diameter so that you don’t have to drill as big of a hole in your door or window. However, due to the smaller size, the magnet spacing gap is only 3/4” so make sure that the gap between your door or window and the corresponding frame is not larger than 3/4”.

The Honeywell MPS5 recessed contact has a Form A, SPST, normally closed internal reed switch. The reed switch has a contact rating of 100mA at 28VDC. When the magnet is close to the contact, the reed switch is in a closed state and your alarm control panel is happy. If the door or window is opened, the magnet will be separated from the contact, and the internal reed switch will switch to an open state. Whenever the MPS5 is in an open state, your Honeywell alarm keypad will display a fault along with the zone number of the MPS5. As soon as the door or window is closed, the recessed contact goes back to a closed state and you will be able to arm your security system.

You will need to drill a 1/4” diameter hole in your door or window frame and a corresponding hole in your door or window to install the MPS5 recessed contact. Use the 18” wire leads coming out of the back of the MPS5 to splice the connection to the (2) conductor alarm wire coming from an open zone on your alarm control panel. You will need to first feed the alarm wire through the hole in the door or window frame so that when you press the contact into the hole, the wire is hidden in the wall. Press the raw magnet into the hole in the door or window and the installation of your MPS5 will be complete.
