Qolsys IQ Carbon
Wireless CO Detector for Qolsys Security Systems
Description
Any home, particularly those with a high risk of carbon monoxide leaks, should have carbon monoxide detectors installed throughout the house. Much like smoke detectors, some carbon monoxide detectors aren’t accurate and have short lifespans.
Since a carbon monoxide leak is very dangerous and potentially fatal, it’s important to have one that is constantly “in tune” with the environment. The IQ Carbon detector monitors the area where it’s installed 24/7 and sends an alert as soon as carbon monoxide is detected.
Whether you’re at home or on the go, you can have added security knowing that a carbon monoxide leak can be detected more quickly.
The Benefits of IQ Carbon
Do you have carbon monoxide detectors in your home that need replacing? Do you use Qolsys IQ Panel every day for added security throughout your home? Do you have a fireplace or an attached garage?
If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, an IQ Carbon detector would be a great safety addition to your home. While some homes don’t have fuel-burning appliances or heaters, there’s a good chance that there’s an attached garage.
Homes with attached garages, a fireplace, and at least one fuel-burning appliance (such as a gas stove) should have at least one carbon monoxide detector in each level of the home where a fuel-burning source is present.
Remember, carbon monoxide leaks often go undetected until it’s too late and a family is in serious danger. By installing an IQ Carbon detector in your home, you no longer need to worry about undetected leaks and the tragedies that result from them.
Specifications of IQ Carbon
If you’ve browsed other carbon monoxide on the market or have one already in your home, you’ll notice that the IQ Carbon detector looks similar to other carbon monoxide detectors. IQ Carbon measures 5” in diameter and comes an installation manual, one 3 volt lithium battery, screws, anchors, and a mounting device.
IQ Carbon operates best when the indoor temperatures are between 40°F - 100°F (4.4°C - 37.8°C) and between 15 to 90 percent non-condensing relative humidity.
The Best Place To Install Your IQ Carbon Detector
You can install an IQ Carbon device on either the ceiling or a wall. If you mount it on the ceiling, keep it at least 12” away from a wall. If you mount your device on the wall, keep it at least 6” away from the ceiling.
An ideal spot for mounting your IQ Carbon is within 10 feet of a sleeping area or inside the bedroom is there is a fuel burning appliance present. As we mentioned already, install a detector on every level of the home or in every room with a fuel burning appliance (such as a kitchen with a gas stove). If you are unable to mount the detector in the room, place it in an area nearby.
Never mount a detector directly above a stove, oven or sink and never within 5 feet of a cooking appliance. Avoid installing your IQ Carbon in an area where it can be affected by the weather (such as near an open window) or some place with heavy humidity or dust. An IQ Carbon detector should be installed in a safe place where it can’t be knocked down or damaged.
Installing Your IQ Carbon
After selecting an ideal place to mount your IQ Carbon device, you will synch up your IQ Carbon to your IQ Panel. Always keep your packaging and the manual just in case the device doesn’t work or there are parts missing. Keep your installation manual handy as it can help you with some common troubleshooting issues.
To get started, select “settings,” then “advanced settings.” Next, you will be prompted to enter a code, and you can enter the Dealer code (2222) or the Installer code (1111). While the dealer code has a few more options, the installer code works just as well. Select “installation,” “devices,” and then “security sensors.” You can manually add the sensor or touch “auto learn.”
After you press “auto learn” on the IQ Panel, pull the battery tab from the detector. Your IQ Panel will “learn” the IQ Carbon detector and adds it to your list. You will repeat this process for each IQ Carbon you install.
You can customize what type of sensor type it is (select “carbon monoxide detector”) and create a custom description (such as the location of the detector), as well as distinct alert sounds. Don’t forget to test your IQ Carbon detector before mounting each device.
Additional Tips
While the IQ Carbon battery is designed to last for at least a few years, excess dust, extreme temperature changes, and high humidity can shorten the life of the battery. Although you should test your detector regularly, you will be alerted if a low battery is detected.
If your IQ Carbon has a low functioning battery, the yellow LED will flash every 12 second and you will hear one chirp every 45 seconds. For other alerts, consult your installation manual.
Keep in mind that IQ Carbon is only designed to detect levels of carbon monoxide throughout the home, not smoke or fire. Become familiar with carbon monoxide situations (such as a car idling in the garage) and always make sure that your home has proper ventilation.
Recognize carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms and always take an alert seriously. Remember, carbon monoxide is odorless and tasteless. Even if you get a “false” alarm, it’s always best to take each alert seriously. If an alarm sounds, silence it, call 9-1-1, head outdoors or to an open window, and wait until you receive an “all clear.”
If your IQ Carbon alarms again within 24 hours repeat the steps and call an appliance technician for a further inspection. If no issues are detected, consider replacing your IQ Carbon.
Note: Qolsys sensors operate at 319.5 MHz. They will not work with the 345 MHz and the 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. They are designed for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus and other 319.5 MHz systems.
