Resideo Z5SWITCH
Z-Wave Plus In-Wall Smart Switch
Description
The Resideo Z5SWITCH is an in-wall smart switch that allows you to control your lights from virtually anywhere. You can turn your lights ON/OFF and use them with smart scenes. It is great for use with nearly any Z-Wave controller, including compatible Resideo Systems and Total Connect 2.0.
Although installing your own light switch might seem intimidating, it is actually quite easy. Just cut power at the breaker, remove the existing light switch, and install the Resideo Z5SWITCH in its place. You can even use the Z5SWITCH to power a ceiling fan with up to a 1/2 HP motor. The switch fits nicely into a single-gang bracket. From there, you will want to pair the device with your Z-Wave network.
Z-Wave connectivity is the most exciting feature for the light, as it is what makes smart control possible. The Z5SWITCH was built for use with Resideo Systems that support Z-Wave connectivity and Total Connect 2.0. But you can really use the device with any Z-Wave controller. This includes Samsung SmartThings and Alarm.com Security Systems.
You unlock so many great features by using the Z5SWITCH with a smart platform like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com. This is what will allow you to control the device remotely and use it with smart scenes. By setting up smart scenes, you can have your hardwired lights or ceiling fan activate automatically based on a schedule or with predetermined system events.
If you want to use the Z5SWITCH with a 3-way smart lighting setup, then you can easily pair it with the Resideo Z53WSWITCH. Just remember that you will need a traveler wire for a 3-way configuration. You do not need a traveler wire if you are using the device to simply control lights from a single switch location. The Z5SWITCH can be used with up to two (2) of the Resideo Z53WSWITCH devices for a 4-way wiring setup.
You must make sure not to exceed the maximum allowable load when using the Resideo Z5SWITCH. The device can support up to a 1800W resistive load, or power a 1/2 HP motor for a ceiling fan, or 960W of incandescent bulbs. 1800W is the equivalent of 15A, so keep that in mind if you are measuring power in Amps.
The Z5SWITCH is compatible with CFL and LED bulbs. A neutral wire is required in the installation process. The device features a power shutoff switch, a manual on/off switch, and it can communicate from up to 150 feet away from the Z-Wave controller when signal hopping through up to four (4) Z-Wave devices. The device uses screw terminals for its hardwired connections.
