2GIG Edge: Compatibility With 2GIG Sensors

Hey, DIY-ers, Jorge here from Alarm Grid. Today we're going to be going over whether or not the 2GIG edge security system is compatible with all 2GIG sensors. The quick and easy answer to this is yes. Any 2GIG sensors that's out there, whether it's the normal 2GIG or the 2GIG encrypted sensors, those will all work on a 2GIG edge. So this is very beneficial for those of you who have an older GC2 or GC3 system, and all your sensors are normal 2GIG, you guys can easily go out, buy yourself a 2GIG edge, pop that into place, program all the sensors in, and boom you're ready to go with the brand new 2GIG edge system, you just add the older legacy sensors. Now after these legacy sensors were made, this was during the same-- these sensors were made when the GC2 and the GC3 were being sold as well. Now you have the newer panels [INAUDIBLE] GC2s and the GC3-- the GC2e and the GC3. These are the encrypted versions of those older legacy panels. And when these encrypted panels came out, that's when the encrypted series of the 2GIG sensors came out. So like sometimes if you go out and you're trying to find your window sensors for your 2GIG system you might see DW10s which are the common door window sensors you add, or you'll see DW10-e. Those are the encrypted-- -e. You have the 2GIG motions or 2GIG motion-es or there's-- pretty much any 2GIG sensor there's an encrypted version of it. So if you guys had GC2e or GC3, and you guys had the encrypted sensors, then this also works. Now you can mix and match the sensors as well. Let's say you have a home and all the sensors were normal 2GIG but some of them may be end of life, some of them may be expiring, some of them are just broken, they're not working the same as they used, you can upgrade and buy the new encrypted sensors and mix and match them as well. Now this not only goes for the wireless sensors, you also have wired to wireless takeover kits as well. For instance, the 5800C2W which is Honeywell, you have the 2GIG Take-345 or 2GIG Take-1e-345. That's the encrypted 2GIG take over module. And all of these three converters are also compatible with the security system as well. One other thing I didn't touch on, they have the older 2GIG sensors-- the legacy-- you have the encrypted 2GIG sensors which are the new ones, and you also have Honeywell one direction sensors or uni-directional sensors. These are like the 5,800 minis. I actually have one. I'm using a 5,800 mini as a door sensor for my 2GIG edge system. As you see here I move the magnet away in the system went into, "Not ready to arm". And this I have a little sticker on there. It's a 5,800 minis. It is a Honeywell sensor, the two systems have always been made to be compatible with the non encrypted Honeywell sensors. They operate at the same frequency 345 megahertz, which is why they work with each other they're interchangeable. The only difference is 2GIG has little different encryption to their RF frequency, which is why sometimes you can use 2GIG sensors on other Honeywell systems, but Honeywell sensors you can as long as they're not using house ID. So some devices that use house ID on Honeywell or for instance, the 5,800 wave it uses house ID to basically-- it's a wireless siren that goes off when a Honeywell wireless system goes off. Another bidirectional device from Honeywell would be like a 5828 keypad, or the 5834-4 key fob in high security mode. These all use a house ID code. And Honeywell devices that use house ID cannot be used on 2GIG systems because they don't support house ID. So normal sensors like doors, windows, motions, glass break detectors, flood detectors, smoke seal detectors, heat detectors, all of those if they're Honeywell 2GIG or the 2GIG encrypted sensors, then those will all work on the new 2GIG edge.
