Changing the Installer Code on an a LYNX Touch Security System

idea wires join from alarm grid and today we're gonna show you how to update the installer code on your link security system now we have an l7000 setup right here and ready to go and we're going to show you how to update it at the panel if you do have a link system installed and it is monitored by far the easiest way to update your installer code is just to give your your monitoring company a call or your security dealer and just tell them which code that you want they're very likely going to have the ability to upload your panel programming see what the current code is updated if you need to and then push it back down your panel but let's say that you're at home and you just want to update the installer code on the system itself if you have the installer code it's really easy to do all you have to do is jump into programming we're gonna do that right now so click on security more tools we have it set as the default for one one two so we do four one one two click on program and you're gonna see the first option is install our code this is actually where you can update the code you just click clear and then enter your new code so we're going to leave it as the default code and then click done now let's say that you go into a new house or apartment or whatever and you find a new system or for whatever reason you don't remember the installer code on the system or if you've locked yourself out of programming there is a way to get into system programming on the panel using a method called the back door method the only way that or the way that you can lock yourself out of programming is that if you're in programming and you're pressing the back arrow you're gonna see this menu says allow installer to re-enter programming you're always going to want to say yes to this because what this is saying is do you want the installer code to be able to get into programming locally at the system if you say no to this you can lock yourself out of programming and you'll have to use the backdoor method to get back into programming which will turn this lock off even with this lock on your security company will still be able to see your systems information so if you aren't at home and you do need the installer code updated and you know that the system is locked they're still going to be able to upload the system programming and change that for you so we're just going to say yes because it's a good habit to do and now we're back on the main menu so let's say that we don't know what the installer code is and we want to get back in the system programming so the backdoor method to do this we're gonna have to power the system down 100% power it back up and then we're gonna press and hold the home button during the power up sequence once it says ready to arm we're going to let go of the home button we're gonna click arm stay then we're going to click clear and then 0 0 and that's going to bring us into the programming menu and I know that's a lot to remember so let's walk through it right now so the first thing we have to do is power down our link system as it has no power switch on the unit we actually have to open it up disconnect the main power and then unplug the backup battery so there's two tabs right here on the top you can just press down and the front of the system is gonna hinge open this is our main power supply right here and this is our backup battery connection now I'm gonna undo this one and then I'm going to undo the backup battery and now the system is fully powered off now when you're powering the system back on you always want to plug in the backup battery first as that acts as a voltage buffer in case there's any extra voltage on the line if there is extra voltage the battery will just absorb it and it won't damage your panel if there's a lot of extra voltage on the line and you connect the main power connection first there's a chance that I could short out on the board and damage your panel Honeywell does recommend always plug in the backup battery first so we're going to plug in our backup battery I'm gonna get my barrel connector I'm gonna plug it in in our barrel connection and then going to close up the panel as you can see it's booting up so I'm going to press and hold the home button on the front of the system and we just got to keep this pressed down until the system says ready to arm you're going to see it go through its boot process right here then the system's going to go to its main menu it's going to say system standby then when the system says ready to arm we know that we can let go of this button and continue on to the next step this backdoor method actually does work with most lynx panels that are out there if you check out our website or give us a call we could certainly help you out if you are looking to backdoor your system it's no problem at all so as you can see this I'm still booting up depending on what state your panel is in this may take a short amount of time or it may take a minute or longer so you want to be patient with it as you can see we have systems standby right on the top of the system telling us that we're still booting and as soon as this goes green and says ready to arm then we know that we can go to the next step now this process if you press one incorrect button it's not going to work and you'll have to redo the process it's not a huge deal as you won't damage anything and it's not heard in the panel at all it's just if you do feel like you didn't do it in the proper order if you did enter an incorrect digit just redo the process right from the start and give it another shot and make sure that you pick a strong finger before doing this because you may have to hold it on the panel for an extended period of time as you can see so now we're at ready to arm so we're going to let go of the home button we're going to click on security then we're going to click on an arm stay then we're going to enter clear and then we're going to enter zero zero and as you can see we got back into programming so if we click this right here it's the same menu as before and from there we're able to update the installer code that's
