Honeywell Home Tuxedo Keypad: Connect to WIFI

Hi, DIYers. This is Michael from Alarm Grid, and today, I'm going to be showing you how to connect your Honeywell Home Tuxedo keypad to a local Wi-Fi network. I'll describe the importance of connecting it to the Wi-Fi network in a little bit, but first, let's just show you how to do it. So, we're at the main screen of our Tuxedo, and we're going to click the Settings icon, which is the gear at the bottom, we're going to choose System Wi-Fi, and then we're going to look for our Wi-Fi network. You can use both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks with the Tuxedo, which is a nice upgrade over the Lyric which can only do 2.4, but you can do 2.4 and 5 with Tuxedo. So, we have ours here Alarm Grid, so just find the network that you want, scroll through it, and locate it. And then you're going to enter your password, which we're going to do that now. And then once you have your password entered, then you can click the Connect button in the bottom right corner of this pop up thing. And it will say obtaining IP address, connected, no internet, and we should get the internet in a second. There we go. Connected. So we are connected to the Alarm Grid headquarters Wi-Fi network. So, that's how you connect to the Wi-Fi. So, a few things about using Wi-Fi with the Tuxedo. First of all, there is no ethernet port on the Tuxedo, so, you have to use Wi-Fi for connecting with a network. The reason why the Tuxedo connects with a local Wi-Fi network, it's to relay automation commands to Total Connect 2.0, to get firmware updates from Alarm nets, and for displaying a weather forecast, which you can actually see in the upper right corner right there of the Tuxedo. So, that's why it connects with the network. So, the Tuxedo is not an alarm net communicator. I want to make that very clear. Even though you're connecting it to a Wi-Fi network, it doesn't connect to the internet on the behalf of the VISTA system. Assuming you have your Tuxedo set up with a VISTA system, you will still be adding a communicator to the VISTA, whether that's an IP Communicator, internet protocol, or a cellular communicator, or a dual path communicator that does both Wi-Fi and/or does both internet and cellular. The dual path communicators for the VISTA don't actually use Wi-Fi, they use a hard wired ethernet connection. So, the Tuxedo is not connecting to the internet on the behalf of the VISTA. Assuming you have it connected with a VISTA system that is monitored and set up for use with Total Connect 2.0, then the Tuxedo will be relaying commands, if you, for example, turn your smart lights on, or you lock your smart door lock. It will be relaying the automation commands to Total Connect 2.0. Like I said earlier, if there are firmware updates, then it can download those if they're making improvements to the Tuxedo, or they're fixing an error, and they provide a firmware update, then that's how it would be sent down across Wi-Fi. And also, the weather forecast that I mentioned. So, as an internet device, it will have a MAC and CRC code. If you want to check that out, you press the Settings icon, the gear, and then you choose System Info. And you can see the network information over here, including the MAC address and the CRC code. We also have an IP address, a broadcast address, and a net mask. We get various information over there, so that can be useful, as well. You might want to write down the MAC and CRC, or take a picture of it and use it that way. But just as a reminder, if you're at the main screen at the Tuxedo, you press the Settings icon and you choose System Wi-Fi, that's the Wi-Fi menu where you can connect to a local Wi-Fi network. They have an option to refresh the network down here. You can toggle off the Wi-Fi if you're not using it, but you'd probably want it connected to the Wi-Fi in most cases, and you have a manual button down here, but in most cases, you can scroll through and find the network you want to use, connect to it, provide the password, and you'll get the Tuxedo keypad connected to local Wi-Fi for all the benefits that I mentioned earlier.
