Connecting a LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door to a Honeywell Alarm System

Description
In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid shows you how to pair a LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door Controller to a Honeywell Alarm System. You cannot control a LiftMaster MyQ Controller directly from a Honeywell System, but you can operate it through Total Connect 2.0, which is often used with Honeywell Systems.
Total Connect 2.0 is an interactive monitoring and automation platform that you can access from pretty much anywhere. It can be pulled up at any time using a web browser or a smartphone. The platform offers various integrations, including one for LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door Controllers. This will allow you to open and close your garage door from the Total Connect 2.0 platform. Unfortunately, the integration is somewhat limited, as you cannot use the LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door Controller with Total Connect 2.0 Smart Scenes. But you can still receive text and/or email alerts regarding any garage door activity.
A few things are required to use Total Connect 2.0. You need to have a Honeywell Alarm System with a compatible AlarmNet Communicator. You must also have an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to Total Connect 2.0 for automation. For Alarm Grid customers, this means having a Silver Level Monitoring Plan or higher. You should have the LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door Controller set up in its entirety before attempting to pair it with Total Connect 2.0. This includes connecting the LiftMaster MyQ Garage Controller to a local WIFI network and creating a LiftMaster MyQ account. You will need to provide your LiftMaster My account information to Total Connect 2.0 to complete the integration.
Remember, Total Connect 2.0 offers some great features. You can arm and disarm your system, check current system status, control Z-Wave devices, view cameras, and more from this convenient platform! Please contact support@alarmgrid.com if you are interested in learning more about Total Connect 2.0.

[ALARM GRID SOUND INTRO] Hi, DIYers. It's Joe from Alarm Grid. And today, we're going to talk about connecting your LiftMaster myQ garage door controller to your Honeywell alarm system. In the past, you were only able to do this using a 5877 relay, a tilt sensor, and then a siren strobe. You'd have to set them all up, programmed them to work, and then you're able to control your garage door. We actually do sell this kit on the website. You can purchase it if you just search for the Honeywell GDCK, it'll come up. It has all the pieces you'd need if you want to control the garage door like that. That setup though is not compatible with myQ garage door controller. So if you do have a myQ, you're going to have to use the other option to control the garage door with your system. This solution doesn't actually allow you to connect the garage door controller directly to your Honeywell alarm system. It has an integration that links it through Total Connect 2.0. So before you do use this integration, you will need Total Connect 2.0 in your system, and you are going to have to have automation enabled to use this feature. After both of those are setup, it's a really easy process to connect your myQ to your Honeywell system through Total Connect. You really just have to log in. And we'll show you how to do that in just a second. With myQ though, before you do this, you're going to want to set it up 100%. So you're going to want to connect to your Wi-Fi network and go through any of the prompts that myQ asks you to do to set that device up. Once that setup, you'll be able to easily integrate it into your Honeywell Total Connect 2.0. There is a downside to the myQ though. And that's that you can't actually have it programmed into scenes on the system. There is a workaround for this if you have a Honeywell Lynx or Honeywell Lyric installed. And there are some limitations with the workaround. If you are interested in seeing that, feel free to reach out to us or click on the link that you'll find that explains more about this. Today though, we're just going to show you how to connect these two services. So we have our L7000 right here. And we also have an iPad with total connect of the account that we're going to log into and show you how to connect these two things. So now I'm on the iPad home screen. When I click on my Total Connect 2.0, I already have the credentials set up, so we're logging right in. And now we're logged into the L7000. That's right behind me. All I have to do to connect to myQ is click on the Automation tab. And then this button right up here in the upper right little computer screen with the tablet or the phone next to it. Click that. And then you see, you get a prompt with all these different services where you can add different things. We have August, we have different Honeywell products. There is the LiftMaster right there. And then on the bottom, you have the other devices. So when I click the LiftMaster Chamberlain, they're the ones that make the myQ. You'll see it says, launch the myQ app to begin the setup of the new garage door, or attach an existing Chamberlain garage door to this location. So if you already had it setup, you can click the bottom button. It will end up to this window, and then all you have to do is enter the myQ account credentials that you created when you first set up the myQ garage door controller. After entering them in these fields right here, you click authenticate and it links it with your app. After that, you will be able to control the garage dual controller through your Total Connect 2.0, which is super, super convenient. If you do have any questions about this process, about the workaround, maybe you don't have a Lyric or Lynx, and you want to figure out how to get more out of the myQ regarding scenes with the system, do you have any questions about installing the myQ, about the other ways that you can control your garage door with your system, feel free to give us a call at 888-818-7728.
