Motion Sensors That Work with the LYNX Touch L7000

[METALIC CHIME] [CLICK] Hey, DIYers. Jarrett with Alarm Grid here. Today, we're going to discuss what motion detectors work with the Honeywell Lynx Touch L7000. Now, the Honeywell 5800 sensors or motion detectors will be able to work with the L7000 system. And when you are setting these up, you can even auto enroll these sensors into the system in a very easy way. You will need the installer code to be able to set that up though. So to let you know, the default installer code, 4112. Now, to jump into the different motion detectors, the standard go-to motion detector is the Honeywell 1500 PIR-RES. This is normally the same to go to, as I said. And, basically, this has a viewing angle of about 40 to 35 feet. When it comes to the mounting height of the sensor, you want to at least put it between 6.5 and 7.5 feet up in the air up on the wall. And this motion sensor also comes with pet immunity that's rated up to-- four small animals, up to about 80 pounds. Now, if by any chance, that's not the motion detector you're looking for. You want something with a little more features, Then the Honeywell 5800 PIR is the way to go then. So the Honeywell 1500 PIR, it does have the same areas detection as the 15 PIR-RES, Yes but this time, it actually comes with a tamper switch. So, basically, that is that if you have it set up, and an intruder comes in, and they try to open up the sensor and disable it, then that tamper switch should be able to tell that something is going on with it. And it will be able to tell that it's being tampered with. So if you wanted to set that up, then you're going to set that to loop 4 on the L7000 system. Used to have an L7000 right there. Now, there is a low temperature sensor-- or low temperature feature also for the 5800 PIR motion detector. And if you wanted to set that up, then you're going to set that up to loop 3. So if you need something a little bit stronger, maybe even for commercial use, then we would suggest the Honeywell 5800 PIR-COM-- or COM. So this motion detector is mainly used for commercial areas. It does give you a coverage range of about 80 by 60 feet with the standard lens that comes with it. Now, there is a long range lens that comes with that as well that you can install, and this would allow you to have a range of 100 by 20 feet. And that would be great for any one corridors or long hallways that you have for certain areas. Now, the 1500 PIR-COM-- or COM, it does have four programmable loops that you can setup. Loop 1 and 2 are for the low and high sensitivity for the different coverage areas. And loop 3 is going to be for low temperature settings. And loop 4 is going to be for the tamper switch. Now, if by any chance, using standard PIR motion detectors and you're having multiple false alarms with them, then we would suggest maybe using a dual-tech motion detector. Now, one of the dual-tech motion detectors that are very good is the Honeywell 5898. Now, what makes a motion detector dual-tack is that it uses both PIR technology and microwave technology. So this motion detector is not going to trip or send any false alarms unless it detects anything moving past it with both the PIR technology and the microwave technology. So the Honeywell 5898 motion detector has enormous coverage range of about 60 by 50 feet with the standard lens. Now, if you wanted to swap out the standard lens with the pet immune lens, then it does give you a range-- or coverage area of 40 by 35 feet. And the pet immunity gives-- its rating for animals up to about 100 pounds. So that is a really cool feature with that. Now if by any chance, you're looking for any motion detectors that can be used outside, luckily, Honeywell did come out with one. It is called the Honeywell 1500 PIR-OD. O.d. And this motion detector has a protective exterior coating with IEP 54 for rating. And this is basically meant to be used in different areas-- or different environments that feature heavy rain, wind, sunlight, high temperatures, everything in regards to that. So these motion detectors are pretty sturdy for those environments. It is rated to support temperatures from negative 4 degrees Fahrenheit even up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. And the coverage range for that-- or the coverage area for those is up to 40 by 40 feet. And if you wanted to change the sensitivity, whether it be you want that 1500 PIR-OD to have a high sensitivity or low sensitivity, all you gotta do is just change the pulls count for it. So if you didn't want to use any motion detectors from Honeywell themselves, then you can use some Optex Motion detectors that are compatible with the L7000. So if you want to check that out. The first one is the Optex WNX-40HW. This motion detector has a coverage range of 40 by 40 feet, but if you did want to change the lens or install a new lens that gives you a coverage range of 60 by 6 feet, then you can use the Optex FL-60N lens. Now, there is a ceiling mounted motion detector, if you wanted to take a look at it as well. The model for this is the Optex WFX-360HW. And this has a diameter coverage of 40 feet. And lastly, there is one more Optex motion detector available, and that is the Optex FTN-RRHW. This is an outdoor motion detector. It is a little bit-- or it is more affordable than the 5800 PIR-OD, but it is going to be a little bit less powerful. But, at the same time, it is still very reliable. And those are the motion detectors that are compatible with the Honeywell LYNX touch L7000.
