Description
In this video, Jorge talks about using the Qolsys IQ Siren with a 2GIG GC3 Panel. This is a great way to increase the volume of the system or to provide a reliable sounder for a second location of the building. The siren will activate whenever an an audible alarm occurs on the 2GIG GC3 Alarm System.
The reason that the Qolsys IQ Siren works with the 2GIG GC3 is because the system accepts Z-Wave smart home devices. The Qolsys IQ Siren pairs like any other Z-Wave device. The user must exclude the device before attempting to pair it. They can then add it to the Z-Wave network. For best results, it can be helpful to enroll the siren while it is plugged-in with the system. Jorge does not do this in the video, but he does plug-in the siren prior to testing.
The siren will activate with any audible system alarm. This includes burglary and fire alarms. It will not activate for medical alarms or silent alarms. Since the siren has an internal backup battery, it should work even if it is unplugged. However, you should always keep the siren plugged-in for best practice. Remember, this is a Z-Wave device, so it will need to be within the signal range. You can potentially increase the range by adding additionally Z-Wave devices for the Z-Wave signal to "hop" through. A Z-Wave signal can pass through up to four devices.
To get the siren to stop sounding, simply clear the system alarm. You can do this using your Master Code or any valid system user code. At that point, both the system sounder and the IQ Siren will stop sounding. The siren produces sounds of up to 105 dB, which is considerably louder than the GC3 internal sounder. It also has a small strobe light to provide visual indication of an alarm.

Hey, DYErs. I'm Jorge from Alarm Grid. Today we're going to be going over how to use the IQ Siren with a 2GIG system. I'm actually going to be demonstrating how to use this Siren with the GC3. So first, let's talk a little bit about this IQ Qolsys Siren. So it is a 105 decibel siren, which means that it sounds at about the same decibel rating as a helicopter or a jackhammer. It plugs directly into the wall. It also has a built-in backup battery. So if this siren is going off, you can't simply unplug it and expect it to stop working as the backup battery will continue to make the siren keep going off. It has a built-in strobe light, which is right here. I'll show you exactly how it works when we set off an alarm. And basically, the way this siren is intended to be used is if an alarm goes off on the system-- whether it's a burg or a fire-- then that means the IQ Siren will also go off. The only way to make the siren stop going off is to disarm the system with the correct user code or if you just wait the default 4-minute burg bell timeout. Now obviously, that may be different depending if you programmed it differently. But usually, the default is a 4-minute burg bell timeout. So that means after four minutes of the siren going off, the system shuts off. It still stays in an armed state, but it lets you know that there was an alarm. But it's just so that the siren doesn't keep going off. And then once that stops this will also stop. So first thing we need to do is get it programmed into the system. To do that, we have to go into the Z-Wave inclusion and exclusion. Now, just as a general practice, whenever you guys are learning in any Z-Wave devices, the best thing to do first is to exclude it from the system. I'm going to show you guys how to do that on the GC3. So I'm going to tap on my screen and wake it up. I'm going to go to System Settings. You can enter in your Master Code or installer code. I'm just going to enter in my default installer code, which is 1561. Now yours may be different depending if you or your company has changed it. So just something to keep in mind. After we get into the screen we can go to a Smart Home Settings. That's where we need to go to enable Z-Wave devices. So we go to Smart Home Settings. And like I said, we need to exclude it, which means we need to remove it. So we're going to hit remove devices. And since mine was plugged in, my backup battery is already charged. So if I just tap on this button at the very top, it'll beep. It says, device successfully removed. Give me just one moment so I can enable the sound on this. Good. So if you see there, after I pressed the top button, it's still listening for devices. But it did learn in one foreign node. The reason why I like to clear it, exclude it, remove it is so that when these are factory tested, sometimes they just forget to basically remove the sensor from the panel. So it's always good to just wipe out any memory that the Z-Wave device may have. That way it learns into the panel perfectly fine. After we remove it, we now need to add or include it. So we go to Add Devices. Again, I press the button at the top. Found the new device. It's going to start, basically, getting all the settings and everything for it. As soon as it's done, it'll give me a prompt to just say OK. And in a second here, I'm going to set off a burg panic. And I'm also going to set off a fire panic so you guys can see that it works on both signal whether it's burg or fire signal. Give it just second. While this is doing this-- "device added but configuration is taking longer than usual and will continue in the background." You can just hit OK for that. We're going to back out to the Home screen. So you just at the back arrow key all the way out. Now I'm going to go ahead and plug this into the wall so give me just one second. So now that it is plugged in, it's going to get pretty loud in here. So I'm going to set off a panic. As soon as it goes off, I'm going to let it go off for three seconds just so you guys can see the actual siren and how the strobe light functions. And then I'm going to disarm it right away. So set off a panic. I'm going to hold the plus sign. Panic. Hopefully it's an audible panic that way the siren goes off. If it's a silent panic, then the siren will not go off, which I will then have to change the setting. [ALARM SIREN] I'm going to enter in my code to disarm the system. My default Master Code is 1111. So that's the code I used. And again, once you there, just do Clear alarm history just to put the system back in a Ready to Arm mode. And again, I'll show it to you guys with the fire panic as well. Hold on for two seconds. [ALARM SIREN] Fire, fire. The siren goes off as well. And yeah, that's pretty loud. So that's just the, again, quick way on how to power down the IQ Siren. I'm sorry, that's just a quick overview on how to program in the IQ Siren. A little demonstration of how it works, how to disarm it. Again, keep in mind it does have a built-in backup battery. So you guys always want to make sure you have it plugged in. That way that backup batteries always be recharged. And turn it off, you have to disarm the system.
