1000-Feet 22/4 Stranded Alarm Wire
Alarm Grid knows that different types of wires are needed for different situations. One type of wire you might consider for 4-wire connections with relatively short wire runs is 22-4 wire. This type of wire is great if you are working in a small to medium sized house, an apartment building with the panel inside the unit, a small office, or any other small building where you will not need to run sensors and keypads too far from the panel.
You will likely find that 22-gauge wire is a little bit more flexible and easier to work with than the 18-gauge wire most commonly used with alarm systems. An 18-gauge wire will allow for a longer wire run as a thicker wire, but that is not really a concern if all your wire runs are very short. Keep in mind that although 4-conductor wire is best-suited for use with 4-wire connections, you can also use it with 2-wire connections if you just leave 2 of the inner wires disconnected and loose.
Alternatively, you might also use 2-conductor wire for 4-wire connections by simply doubling it up. But if you do that, then you will have 2 red wires and 2 black wires. We recommend labeling them in that scenario so that you do not mix them up later on. Most people prefer doubling up 2-conductor wire over using 4-conductor wire and potentially leaving some wire loose, but that is up to you. Really, just keeping both types around is advised.
The wire listed here is stranded wire, which means the inner copper core for each wire is split up into multiple strands. This makes the wire more flexible and more forgiving. If you are new to wiring, then this is the type we definitely recommend. However, there are some installers who are accustomed to solid core wire. We have that type available on our website elsewhere if needed. The listings here are for 1,000-foot rolls, but you can also find 500-foot rolls if you need a smaller amount instead.
