500-Feet 22/4 Stranded Alarm Wire
When it comes to alarm wiring, you have plenty of options to choose from. One option is 22-4 wiring, which consists of four (4) inner cables that are 22 AWG in thickness. This is in contrast to the thicker 18 AWG wire that is most commonly used with alarm systems. While 22 AWG is used slightly less often, most projects will allow for either type interchangeably. The advantage to the thicker 18 AWG is that it will allow for longer wire runs. But 22 AWG is often preferred by DIY users, as it is thinner. This makes it more flexible and easy to maneuver.
Since this cabling has four (4) smaller inner wires, it is best-used with 4-wire connections. You will typically find 4-wire connections on wired security devices that need to transmit both data and power to the alarm panel. Examples of devices that use 4-wire connections include keypads and motion detection sensors. With 4-conductor cable, each inner wire will be colored differently (black, red, yellow, green/white) to help you identify the wires later. This can prevent confusion and mistakes from happening later on. If you double-up 2-conductor wiring, then you will have two black wires and two red wires. You might mix them up by mistake if you do not properly label your wires.
The listings here are for 500-foot rolls of stranded alarm wire. Stranded wiring is preferred by most installers. It is also strongly recommended for those new to wiring or those are not accustomed to making delicate maneuvers with their hands. This is because stranded wiring is much more flexible and forgiving than solid core cabling, and you are less likely to break the wire or snap it off. A 500-foot roll of wire should last you through many small projects, or cover a few large projects if needed. However, we also sell 1,000 foot rolls of alarm wire if you tend to go through it quickly. We offer alarm wiring from Genesis, a company owned and operated by Resideo that is known for their high quality copper wiring. You can use it with Honeywell Sensors or sensors and equipment from other manufacturers, such as DSC, Interlogix, Napco, Bosch, and more!
