Honeywell 5800 Sensors
If we had to name the most famous and most popular lineup of wireless security and life-safety sensors, we would probably choose the Honeywell 5800 Series. This sensor lineup revolutionized the security industry by providing that reliable and effective wireless security sensors were possible. This allowed many DIY end users to begin installing their own security systems, as they no longer had to worry about running wires across their buildings. Setting up a fully wireless alarm system is surprisingly easy, and it can really be completed by many first-time security system users. The newest wireless systems of today have the 5800 Series Sensors to thank for their origins.
The Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors were originally known as the Ademco 5800 Series Sensors. However, the company was soon acquired by Honeywell in the following years. This helped to popularize the sensor lineup and make it standard across countless alarm system installations. In more recent times, Honeywell has been acquired by Resideo. You could now refer to these devices as Resideo 5800 Series Sensors. But since they have been known as Honeywell 5800 Sensors for so long, the name has mostly stuck. To this day, they still remain very popular and widely used sensors.
One aspect that all the 5800 Series Sensors have in common is that they communicate across the 345 MHz wireless frequency. Most are unidirectional, but there are some bi-directional devices in this lineup. The bi-directional devices include the 5800WAVE and the 5828 Wireless Keypad. Only the LYNX and VISTA Systems can support the bidirectional devices with a wireless transceiver. But the unidirectional devices are more flexible. By communicating through the 345 MHz frequency, the unidirectional devices can work with the LYNX Touch Systems and the Lyric Alarm System. They can also work with a VISTA System if a wireless receiver is added. These sensors are also compatible with the 2GIG Security Systems and the 345 MHz version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus.
There are many famous 5800 Series Sensors that we could talk about. But we will give special attention to just a few. The 5816 is perhaps the best-selling wireless sensor of all time. The wireless door and window contact lets the system know when a door or window is opened, and an on-board terminal lets it be used as a wireless transmitter for normally closed contacts. The 5800PIR-RES is a motion sensor designed for residential use. It offers great versatility as an effective motion. The 5800MINI is a smaller door and window contact than the 5816, and its compact design makes it the preferred option when aesthetics are an issue. Finally, the 5800COMBO changed the game by offering smoke detection, CO detection and low-temperature detection in one convenient device.
