Can I Connect the 2GIG GC3e to the Internet?
Yes, you can connect the 2GIG GC3e to the internet. The panel includes a built-in WIFI card for connecting with a local WIFI network. However, you need to add a cellular communicator and a cellular monitoring plan to get the system monitored. You cannot do that with WIFI alone on a GC3e.
A 2GIG GC3e System has an integrated WIFI card that is used for alarm monitoring. This WIFI card provides the system with an IP communication path for connecting with the Alarm.com servers. This typically serves as the system's primary communication path. To get started with WIFI connectivity, you simply need to access network settings and choose the WIFI network you want to use. You will need to provide the network password if the network is secure.
But you cannot use WIFI alone to get the system monitored. Alarm.com requires that the GC3e System is set up with cellular service as well. This requires an Alarm.com Cellular Communicator. You must install the communicator and activate it with an alarm monitoring company. This will require an alarm monitoring plan. If you have both WIFI and cellular set up with the system, then it will use what is known as "dual-path" connectivity. With dual-path, the system will transmit signals to Alarm.com across both IP and cellular. Whichever signal reaches the destination first will automatically go through, and the other will be discarded.
If you need to add a cellular communicator, then you have a couple of options to choose from. The 2GIG GC3e actually uses the same cellular modules as the older 2GIG GC3 System. The two main cellular communicators for the GC3e are the 2GIG LTEA-A-GC3 (AT&T LTE) and the 2GIG LTEV1-A-GC3 (Verizon LTE). A cellular alarm monitoring plan is needed to activate one of these communicators. Alarm Grid customers can choose any Gold Level or Platinum Level Plan for cellular monitoring service.
