Can I Convert Wired Sensors to Wireless Sensors for a Lyric Alarm System?
Yes, you can convert wired sensors to wireless sensors for a Lyric Alarm System. This requires a compatible wired to wireless converter. We recommend using either a Honeywell 5800C2W or a 2GIG TAKE-345 for this job. Remember that you cannot use hardwired life-safety sensors in this way.
If you are upgrading to a Lyric System from an older hardwired panel, then it is likely that you will have some hardwired sensors you want to bring over. This will save you money and prevent you from having to purchase new wireless sensors for your system. But the Lyric cannot support most hardwired sensors right out of the box. It needs an add-on to make these sensors compatible.
A wired to wireless converter will allow hardwired sensors to communicate with the Lyric Panel wirelessly. This is done by connecting the hardwired sensors to the wired to wireless converter. The converter will send out wireless signals whenever a hardwired sensor is activated. The Lyric will recognize these signals and consider the hardwired sensors to be wireless. In order for this to work, the wired to wireless converter must communicate at a wireless frequency that is compatible with the Lyric System.
The Honeywell 5800C2W communicates at the same 345 MHz frequency as the Honeywell 5800 Sensors. The Lyric is backwards compatible with this frequency, which allows it to support the 5800C2W. The TAKE-345 Converter also communicates at 345 MHz, but at a different channel than the Honeywell 5800 Sensors. The 345 MHz wireless frequency used by the TAKE-345 is the same frequency used by the non-encrypted 2GIG Wireless Sensors. The Lyric can support these sensors when running firmware update MR3 or higher. As a result, the Lyric can be used with the TAKE-345, as long as the system is running at least firmware update MR3.
The 5800C2W can support up to nine (9) system zones, while the TAKE-345 can support up to eight (8) system zones. Each zone will occupy a wireless zone slot on the Lyric Alarm Panel. Please note that neither the 5800C2W nor the TAKE-345 can support hardwired life-safety sensors. This includes any smoke detectors, heat detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors. If you want to use life-safety sensors with your Lyric System, they must be wireless.
