Can I Flash Upgrade my Lyric Gateway Security System?
No, a Lyric Gateway Security System is not flash upgradeable.
The Lyric Gateway can only have its firmware updated through AlarmNet360. A user will not have access to this programming, and will need to contact their monitoring company to check for and perform an update. Without an alarm company monitoring the Gateway, a user will have no ability to update the firmware.
The Lyric Gateway is built with an integrated WIFI communicator and Ethernet jack. The top of the system opens to reveal expansion bays where a cellular communicator can be installed. In the US, the Lyric Gateway supports either an AT&T or a Verizon cellular communicator. A user would want to select the communicator of the provider that has the best service in their area, as the system operation with either communicator is the same. The Gateway can use any of the three communication paths as its sole method of communication (Ethernet, WIFI or Cellular). The Gateway is also able to use a combination of Cellular plus WIFI or Ethernet in a Dual Path setup. With this configuration, the system will automatically switch from a failing communication path (Ethernet or WIFI) to an active communication path (Cellular). This is ideal for users who have poor internet reliability, or a location where internet service is not always available.
The Gateway is unique in that it has no digital display. The system does have illuminated, soft touch buttons, function keys for announcing alerts and activating panic alarms and has an LED that indicates what armed state the panel is currently in (Armed Stay, Armed Away or Disarmed). The Gateway does have an app available for free on the Google Play and iOS stores. The apps user interface is nearly identical to the Lyric Controller interface and is bright, clean, easy to use and intuitive in its layout. With this app, a user can connect to the system as long as the smart device running the app is connected via WIFI to the same network as the Gateway.
