Can I Use a 21iP to Activate a Lock?
Yes, you can use a 21iP to activate a lock. Z-Wave locks can be operated by a VISTA-21iP. However, a Z-Wave controller will need to be added to the system in order to do this. The compatible Z-Wave controllers for the 21iP include the Honeywell VAM and the Honeywell Tuxedo Touch Keypad.
Being able to control home automation devices is a common feature for alarm systems. This is often done using wireless Z-Wave technology. The panel can send signals to various Z-Wave devices, including lights, thermostats and outlets. However, the Honeywell VISTA-21iP does not come pre-included with this capability. Instead, a Z-Wave controller must be added to the system first. Both the Honeywell VAM and the Tuxedo Touch WIFI Keypad can provide the VISTA-21iP with this function.
Once the Z-Wave controller has been set up with the panel, the Z-Wave lock must be enrolled with the Z-Wave network. This is done through the Z-Wave controller. After the device has been enrolled, the Z-Wave lock should then be installed in the desired door. The door can then be locked or unlocked from the Z-Wave controller. A person can also unlock the door by entering the panel's Master Code or any valid user code into the keypad on the Z-Wave door lock.
A Z-Wave door lock that has been set up with a VISTA-21iP can also be operated through the Total Connect service. Total Connect is an interactive service platform that is designed to work exclusively with Honeywell Security Systems. A user can access Total Connect from a web browser or through the Total Connect mobile app. The VISTA-21iP must have an active IP or cellular connection in order to sync with Total Connect. The user must also have a monitoring plan that includes both Total Connect access and remote Z-Wave control in order to do this.
Whenever a lock is controlled through Total Connect, the Total Connect service will first send a signal to the Honeywell VAM or the Tuxedo Touch Keypad. From there, the automation controller will pass on the signal to the Z-Wave lock to perform the desired function. The Z-Wave lock will then respond accordingly by either locking or unlocking the door. Please note that Total Connect cannot be used to control a Z-Wave lock through the VISTA-21iP unless a Honeywell VAM or a Tuxedo Touch has been added to the system.
