Can I Use a DSC TL880LTVZ N Communicator w/o Alarm.com?
No, you cannot use a DSC TL880LTVZ N Communicator without Alarm.com. The DSC TL880LTVZ N is specifically designed to connect with the Alarm.com servers for monitoring service. You must have a monitoring plan with access to Alarm.com in order to use this dual-path communication module.
The DSC TL880LTVZ N is a dual-path communicator for a DSC PowerSeries NEO Security System. It uses cellular connectivity through the Verizon LTE Network and IP (internet protocol) connectivity to provide monitoring service for the panel. Per Alarm.com requirements, the cellular portion of the communicator must be activated, while the internet portion is optional. Assuming that both cellular and IP are activated, the module will send out signals across both pathways when a system event occurs. Whichever signal goes through first will be processed, while the other signal will be automatically discarded. This will prevent the same system signal from going through twice. In this way, Alarm.com ensures that the fastest available communication path is always used.
Whenever the DSC TL880LTVZ N sends out a signal, it is always first routed through Alarm.com. This is true for both the cellular signals and the IP signals. Alarm.com then forwards the first signal received to a central monitoring station and/or the end user directly, depending on which type of monitoring plan the user has. But either way, the signal will always be passing through Alarm.com. It is possible to get a compatible monitoring plan without remote access to the Alarm.com app, such as the Alarm Grid Cell-Only Plan. Keep in mind that by choosing this type of plan, you will not be able to access the system remotely, and you will not be able to take advantage of the Z-Wave controller included inside the DSC TL880LTVZ N. But even if you do that, the communicator will still technically be communicating through the Alarm.com servers. As a result, it is impossible to use the DSC TL880LTVZ N without Alarm.com.
