Can I Use My Tuxedo Touch Keypad From a Computer?
Yes, you can use your Tuxedo Touch Keypad from a computer. To do this, your computer must be on the same IP network as your Tuxedo Touch. You must enter the IP address for your Tuxedo Touch into a web browser on your computer. The IP address can be found in the bottom-left of the keypad.
The Tuxedo Touch Keypad is a touchscreen keypad designed for use with Resideo/Honeywell/Ademco VISTA Series Panels. This device is great for controlling a VISTA System and providing a more user-friendly experience. Many users prefer the colorful touchscreen of the Tuxedo Touch to a classic push-button keypad, which may seem uninviting. The Tuxedo Touch also includes a built-in Z-Wave controller so that you can start building a smart home network of devices like lights, door locks, and thermostats.
A unique aspect of the Tuxedo Touch is that you can actually control the device from a computer, tablet or smartphone. This is the same as operating your system from the touchscreen keypad itself. The catch is that your device must be on the same IP network as the Tuxedo Touch Keypad. You must open a web browser on the device and enter the IP address for the Tuxedo Touch Keypad. The browser will display the same screen as the Tuxedo Touch Keypad itself. You can then control the keypad from your web browser just like you would at the keypad itself.
The steps outlined below assume that your Tuxedo Touch Keypad is already on an IP network. They also assume that your computer is on that same IP network. Additionally, you will not be able to complete these steps if your VISTA Panel is currently programming mode. If it is, make sure to exit programming mode using the [*99] command before attempting to control your Tuxedo Touch Keypad using your computer.
Complete the following steps to control your Tuxedo Touch Keypad using your computer:
1. Open a web browser. Open a web browser on your computer. This can be any we browser. Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Internet Explorer, and Apple Safari will all work just fine. If you have a different web browser, it should work as well.
2. Enter the IP address. Enter the IP address for the Tuxedo Touch Keypad. If you don't know the IP address, you can find it in the lower-left corner on the main screen for the Tuxedo Touch. This can be seen in the picture below:
3. Provide security exception. You may get a message saying that the connection is unsafe, not private, or not secure. This is fine, as you are merely connecting your own computer to your own Tuxedo Touch Keypad. Provide the security exception so that you can access the page.
In our example, we provided a security exception by first choosing "Advanced", and then choosing the "Proceed to IP Address" link. This can be seen in the following pictures:
4. Control the Tuxedo Touch. Your computer screen should display the same screen as your Tuxedo Touch Keypad. You will now be able to control your Tuxedo Touch from your web browser. You can exit your web browser when finished.
