Can I Use the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS with Total Connect 2.0?
Yes, you can use the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS with Total Connect 2.0. Inside every PROA7PLUS Panel is an AlarmNet IP Communicator called the PROWIFIZW that allows the system to connect with TC2 once it is activated for monitoring. You can also get a cellular module for added reliability.
Total Connect 2.0 is an interactive security notification and smart home automation platform used with a wide selection of Honeywell and Resideo Alarm Systems. The service allows users to arm/disarm, check current system status, control programmed Z-Wave devices, view the live feeds for compatible cameras, and more. You can access the Total Connect 2.0 platform using a compatible web browser or a mobile app on an Android or iOS device.
In order to be used with Total Connect 2.0, a Honeywell or Resideo Security Panel must have an AlarmNet Communicator installed and activated for monitoring service with a plan that includes access to Total Connect 2.0. Depending on the user's monitoring plan, certain TC2 features and functions may be restricted or unavailable. If you are interested in using Total Connect 2.0, check with your monitoring provider to determine which monitoring plan offers the features you need, such as automation services, cellular connectivity, cameras and video monitoring, etc.
In the case of the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS, the system already comes with an AlarmNet Communicator built inside. This is the Honeywell Home PROWIFIZW, which is an internet protocol (IP) communicator, combined with a Z-Wave Plus controller for smart home automation control. It is almost the same as the Honeywell Home PROWIFI, which offers the same IP communication, but without the Z-Wave Plus functionality.
However, if you use the stock PROA7PLUS and its integrated PROWIFIZW alone, then the system will be at the mercy of its internet connection, and a network outage would take the system offline and leave it temporarily unmonitored until internet service is restored. For that reason, many users opt to add cellular backup in the form of a cellular communicator. That way, even if the internet goes out, the system can remain in communication with AlarmNet and Total Connect 2.0.
The two (2) available cellular communicators for the PROA7PLUS are the Honeywell Home PROLTE-A (AT&T LTE) and the Honeywell Home PROLTE-V (Verizon LTE). Whether you go with the AT&T model or the Verizon model has nothing to do with your personal phone, it has no impact on the cost of your monitoring expenses, and it should be based entirely on which network works best in the area where the system will be used. You should check coverage maps if you are unsure. To use either cellular communicator, you will need a monitoring plan that includes cellular service, such as an Alarm Grid Gold or Platinum Level Plan (Self or Full). Keep in mind that a cellular monitoring plan is usually more expensive than an internet-only monitoring plan.
