Can I Use the Honeywell SiXCT With a Wired Overhead Door Contact?
Yes, you can use the Honeywell SiXCT with a wired overhead door contact. The SiXCT can function as a wireless transmitter for a single Normally Closed (NC) wired contact sensor. This means your can can connect an overhead contact to the SiXCT for wireless communication with the panel.
Any sensor that you plan to use as an overhead contact should be able to support a larger-than-average magnet spacing gap. That means that the magnet will need to be separated further from the sensor before the sensor will report a fault to the system. Most door and window contacts allow for a magnet spacing gap of up to half an inch. For most overhead doors, this simply will not work. You will need a specialty contact that allows for a larger magnet spacing gap.
Some users may have trouble finding a suitable overhead contact that communicates wirelessly. But on the other hand, there are many hardwired overhead contacts available. A good solution can be to connect a suitable hardwired overhead contact sensor with a wireless transmitter. The overhead contact will function as normal, while the wireless transmitter will communicate to the panel on its behalf.
The Honeywell SiXCT is an example of a transmitting sensor that you can use for this application. You just need to keep in mind that the SiXCT will only work with the Honeywell Lyric Controller, and it must be set to use its Terminal Block from within programming. The Terminal Block option identifies the fact that the sensor has an external device connected to its terminal block.
Many users find that the Honeywell 958 is a great hardwired contact sensor to use with the SiXCT. This is an epoxy-sealed sensor to protect against moisture and tough impacts. Its 24" armored cable provides added protection and toughness. The 958 allows for a magnet spacing gap of up to 2.5", which makes it perfect for use as an overhead contact. Of course, there are many great overhead contacts out there, so find the one that works best for your needs.
