Can WIFI be primary and GSM backup on an L5200?
Yes. The Honeywell L5200 LYNX Touch alarm system can use WIFI as primary and GSM (cellular) as backup (secondary). You will need the Honeywell L5100-WIFI and the Honeywell GSMVLP5-4G cellular communicator which are both included in the following kits: Honeywell L5200PK-WIFI-4G and L5200PK10-WIFI-4G. As you will see these kits are a great start with door/window sensors, a motion, a wireless key fob, and both communicators needed for a dual path setup.
The L5200 LYNX Touch will use the WIFI's faster speeds when available and if the internet ever drops out the GSM unit will quickly take over and send signals out. This transition process can be set to different times but generally the cellular picks up after about 30 or 2 failed attempts to send data via the WIFI path.
The L5100-WIFI module is extremely easy to install and transmits signals faster than any other communicator. This unit makes Total Connect 2.0 control and remote access a total breeze with instantaneous response time for arming commands. It will connect to any standard DHCP network and supports speeds of up to 54 Mbps.
The GSMVLP5-4G is an extremely reliable unit that is the only communicator that does not rely on AC power. If the power goes out and the router or modem goes out the GSM unit will quickly take over and send signals via 2G, 3G or 4G depending on the best signal in the area. The best part about cellular monitoring is how easy it is to setup. Simply install the unit in your system and leave the rest to us.
There is an included SIM card that is proved for you and already installed in the unit. By documenting and sending us the MAC and MAC CRC information listed on a sticker on the unit we will be able to activate the SIM card with AT&T and register it on Alarmnet. We will add $10/month for unlimited cellular data. The best part is you will never have to deal with AT&T or sign any contracts with us or them! Check out our no contract alarm monitoring page if you are interested.
