Does a Lyric sec. system work w/ Z-Wave receptacles?
Yes, the Honeywell Lyric Security System is compatible with certain Z-Wave receptacles. The Honeywell Lyric Security System ships with a ready to use, preinstalled Z-Wave radio. As soon as the Lyric is powered up, it can support up to 72 Z-Wave devices.
Each Lyric is able to support up to 6 thermostats and 6 door locks. Lyric doesn’t support Z-Wave life safety devices such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. To add devices with this functionality, an end user would need to integrate Honeywell 5800 Series wireless sensors or Honeywell SIXSeries wireless sensors. The Lyric does support Z-Wave lifestyle control devices such as lights, locks, sirens, valves and multiple different types of receptacles.
A Z-Wave receptacle is an outlet, appliance module or lamp dimmer that can be connected to a Z-Wave network. These are remotely controlled, home automation outlets that can be added individually to a Z-Wave network. Z-Wave receptacles come in many different brands and types. Here are a few examples:
Z-Wave receptacles can add security, peace of mind and help save power. A receptacle can be programmed to turn a lamp on when arriving home. Dimmer modules can be programmed to turn down connected lights at certain times, reducing the amount of energy consumed. Appliances plugged into receptacles can be programmed to turn on at certain times. Combining these features with Z-Wave locks, thermostats and other devices allows a user to customize their home automation system to suit their needs.
There are many manufacturers that use Z-Wave communication in their devices. That being said, not all devices are compatible with the Lyric. If possible, compatibility should be checked before ordering a device to make sure that it will work with the system. There is a compatibility list which can be found on page 25 of the Lyric user guide, but in this rapidly changing market, it will probably be outdated as soon as it’s updated. There are many online forums, in addition to our web pages, where compatibility of Z-wave devices is discussed. It’s a good idea to check there when preparing to order.
