Does an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Chime When Doors are Opened?
An Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 will chime when doors are opened if the chime feature for the system is enabled from the main settings menu. To enable this feature, press the gear icon in the bottom-right corner of the main screen. Then press the "On" button next to the chime option.
The chime function on the Simon XTi and XTi-5 is used to have the system produce a "chime" sound whenever a protected sensor is activated while the system is disarmed. If the sensor were to be activated while the system was armed the typical outcome would be different. In this case, there would either be an alarm/siren event or the system would require a disarm within the entry delay period.
Chimes aren't so much a system event, but they are used to simply let the user know that a door or window has been opened. The specific chime settings for each door or window are determined by their programming settings. These settings can be adjusted from the system programming menu at any time.
To turn on the chime function for a Simon XTi or XTi-5, complete the following steps:
1. Open system settings. From the main screen of the Simon XTi or XTi-5, click the gear icon found in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will take you into the system settings menu.
2. Enable the chime. Locate the chime option. Then click the "On" button next to this option. The "On" button will become yellow, indicating that it has been selected (Off indication shown). After doing this, the chime feature will be enabled for all applicable sensors.
3. Exit system settings. Press the "Close" button in the upper-right corner of the screen. This will exit the settings menu and return you to the home screen. Any settings changes that were made will be saved automatically.
