Does the Honeywell Lyric Controller Have a Siren in it?
It might be time to replace your Lyric! Check out Resideo's new system, the Honeywell ProA7 or Pro A7 Plus. You can even use your current sensors.
Yes, the Honeywell Lyric Controller has a siren in it. The Lyric Siren will produce sounds of up to 85 dB during audible alarms. This is about as loud as food blender on maximum speed, and it is loud enough for most users. But if you need something louder, then other options are available.
The Lyric uses its siren to alert users when alarm events occur. A loud siren will ensure that everyone who is on site is alerted to an alarm event, such as a break-in, fire, or outbreak of carbon monoxide gas. For a user who is using the Lyric system in a small to medium sized home, the standard sounder will often be enough. If you need to spread the sound out across a larger space, then you might consider adding a Honeywell SiXSIREN. This is a separate 85 dB siren that you can use in a different location from the panel, in addition to the main panel siren. By having multiple 85 dB sirens, you can ensure that everyone is alerted.
If you are in a particularly noisy or large environment, then it's possible that you may simply need a louder siren. This applies to relatively few users, as usually just using the built-in panel siren or adding one or more SiXSIREN devices will achieve the desired effect. But the easiest siren to add to the system is a Z-Wave siren, such as the Qolsys IQ Siren. The Lyric will likely see the Z-Wave siren as a light switch, so you will most likely need to create special scenes for the siren to operate how it is supposed to. More information on this process can be found in this helpful FAQ. The Qolsys IQ Siren will produce sounds of up to 105 dB, which is about as loud as a lawnmower.
For users who need the power and sound of a hardwired siren (up to 125 dB, or beyond the threshold of pain), you can use the MIMOlite Z-Wave Relay* to integrate a wired siren with the system. This is a relatively more complex setup, so we really only recommend it if you seriously need a super loud siren for the Lyric System. We have an FAQ that explains the process for using the MIMOlite to add a hardwired siren, and you can take a look at it right here.
*The MIMOlite has been discontinued. We are currently in the process of testing a new relay called the ZooZ Zen16 which can be used to replace it when adding a siren. We have an FAQ that shows wiring details here.
