Does the Lyric Alarm System have an Internal Alarm Siren?
Yes, the Lyric Alarm System has an internal alarm siren. The integrated siren for the Lyric Controller can produce sounds of up to 85 dB. This is about as loud as a standard kitchen sink garbage disposal. If a user wants a louder siren, they must use a hardwired one or a Z-Wave siren.
A siren will go into effect whenever a burglary alarm, fire alarm or carbon monoxide alarm occurs on the system. The purpose of the siren is to alert everyone in the building to the situation and let them know that serious danger is present. In most cases, the 85 dB siren that is built into the system is perfectly sufficient.
If a user needs to add a siren, the easiest option is to use the Honeywell SiXSIREN. This is a a wireless siren that was designed exclusively for use with the Honeywell Lyric Controller. However, the SiXSIREN is only rated at 85 dB. As a result, it won't actually produce a louder alarm than the Lyric System itself. But it can still be useful if a user wants a siren to activate in a second area of the property.
If a user requires a louder siren, they can go the Z-Wave route. One of the best sirens to use for this purpose is the Qolsys IQ Siren. This Z-Wave siren can easily enroll with the Lyric System. It produces sounds of up to 105 dB. This is as loud as some of the top-performing motorcycles currently on the market. It also includes a strobe light to provide a visual indication of an alarm.
Some industrial users might require a siren that is even louder. For those users, the only viable option is to use a hardwired siren. This will require using a programmable output with a power supply. A great programmable output to use for this purpose is the MIMOlite*. Alarm Grid has a helpful FAQ on using the MIMOlite with the Lyric Controller. Our website offers hardwired sirens that can produce sounds of up to 120 dB, which is about as loud as a jet plan taking off.
The Lyric System also has a Sounder Menu for adjusting the siren settings. This menu can be accessed by going to Security > Tools > Installer Code (default 4112) > Program > Sounder. This menu will allow to to configure the Burglary Alarm Sound, the Bell Timeout and Arm Confirm settings.
*The MIMOlite, by FortrezZ has been discontinued. We are currently testing the ZooZ Zen16 relay as a replacement. The ZooZ Zen16 offers three (3) Form A (NO) relays. We aren't currently able to source the Zen16, but it is available on Amazon and other online stores. You can see how to wire a siren through the Zen16 here.
