Does the Tuxedo Touch require an alarm panel to work?
The Honeywell Tuxedo keypad works well as a standalone Z-Wave controller if you want to use it as such. It is hardwired, and is designed to function as a keypad (though not a programming keypad) for the VISTA 15P, 20P, 21iP, and the other Honeywell panels that can accept one of Honeywell's hardwired AUI keypads such as the 6280 or the Tuxedo Touch. But these panels are not necessary to the function of the TUX.
If you are not interested in installing a home security system, or you have a system that is not compatible with the TUX, installing the Tuxedo Touch to use as a Z-wave controller is a great idea. And it leaves you open to having the option of eventually using it as a keypad for the security system you may decide to get in the future.
