Honeywell 5800COMBO vs 5806W3
The Honeywell 5800COMBO and the Honeywell 5806W3 are two similar devices from the Honeywell 5800 Series. They are both life-safety devices that communicate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz. They will both work with the same alarm systems. However, their sensing capabilities differ.
It's very easy to find similarities between the 5800COMBO and the 5806W3. For one, both wireless sensors function as smoke detectors. Both will send an alert to the security system whenever smoke is detected. Both sensors operate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz. This allows them to be used with the Lyric Controller, any LYNX Touch Panel, the 2GIG GC3, the 2GIG GC2 and any Honeywell VISTA that has an added wireless receiver. All of this allows the two devices to be used quite interchangeably.
However, there are also some key differences between the 5800COMBO and the 5806W3. The most obvious is that the 5806W3 is strictly for smoke detection. It will not respond to the presence of high temperatures or carbon monoxide. The 5806W3 is best described as a single-purpose sensor. If you are using a 5806W3, then it is strongly recommended that you also have a second device for detecting an outbreak of life-threatening carbon monoxide. One such device is the Honeywell 5800CO. This is another device from the Honeywell 5800 Series. It will function with any system that is already using a Honeywell 5806W3.
On the other hand, the 5800COMBO is a triple-purpose sensor. It will respond to smoke, heat and carbon monoxide. This makes the 5800COMBO more of an all-in-one device than the 5806W3. If you are using a 5800COMBO, then you will not need a separate device for only detecting fire or carbon monoxide in that room. With that in mind, the 5800COMBO offers the added convenience of being able to detect both fires and carbon monoxide outbreaks with one single device.
There are also some other small differences between the 5800COMBO and the 5806W3. For one, the 5800COMBO is considerably larger than the 5806W3. The 5800COMBO requires four CR123A lithium batteries, while the 5806W3 only requires one. Both devices have a battery life of about three to five years,
