Honeywell 5800MINI vs Qolsys IQ DW Standard
The Honeywell 5800MINI and the Qolsys IQ DW Standard are both wireless surface-mount door and window contacts. They function in a similar manner and they have equal operating ranges. However, they communicate at different wireless frequencies, making them compatible with different systems.
In terms of pure functionality, the 5800MINI and the IQ DW Standard are virtually identical. Both devices consist of a sensor and a magnet. The sensor is installed on the frame of a door or window. The magnet is installed on the door or window itself, within about half an inch of the sensor. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause an internal reed switch inside the sensor to activate. When this happens, the sensor will send a wireless signal to the security system so that the programmed response can be performed.
The two devices are also installed in a very similar manner. Both devices can be placed on a door or window using screws or with double-sided foam tape. As surface-mount sensors, both devices will be visible on the outside of the door or window. That said, both devices are relatively compact so that they will not take up too much space. They also feature modern designs that will fit in seamlessly with most environments.
However, there are also some important differences between the devices. The most notable is the wireless frequencies at which they communicate. This means that they will function with different alarm systems. The 5800MINI communicates at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, and it will interface with any Honeywell or 2GIG Panel. The Qolsys IQ DW Standard communicates at a wireless frequency of 319.5 MHz, and it will interface with any Qolsys Panel.
The sizes also differ, with the 5800MINI being the smaller and more compact of the two. The 5800MINI measures 2.2"H x 1.0"W x 0.25"D, and the IQ DW Standard measures 3.25"H x 1.3"W x 1.0"D. Additionally, the 5800MINI features LED lights to show its current status, while the IQ DW Standard does not feature any lights.
