Honeywell 5800MINI vs Qolsys IQ Recessed Door S

The Honeywell 5800 MINI and the Qolsys IQ Recessed Door S are both door and window sensors. However, they are very different devices. The 5800MINI is an unencrypted surface-mount sensor, while the IQ Recessed Door S is an encrypted recessed sensor. They are also from different companies.

First and foremost, the 5800MINI and the IQ Recessed Door S communicate at a different wireless frequency. The 5800MINI communicates at a frequency of 345 MHz, while the IQ Recessed Door S communicates at a frequency of 319.5 MHz. This makes them compatible with different security systems. The 5800MINI is designed specifically for use with Honeywell Alarm Panels, though it can also be used with 2GIG Systems. The IQ Recessed Door S on the other hand is designed for use with Qolsys Panels, and it can only be used with these systems.

Another major difference is that the 5800MINI is a surface-mount sensor, while the IQ Recessed Door S is a recessed sensor. The 5800MINI sensor and its magnet are inserted on the outside of the door or window and its frame. The device can be installed with screws or with doubled-sided foam tape. This makes the installation very easy. However, the device will be visible on the outside of the door.

But the IQ Recessed Door S is a recessed sensor. The device and its included magnet are actually inserted into two separate holes that are drilled into the door or window and its frame. This allows them to be hidden after the installation is complete. But the downside is that the installation process can be more difficult since some minor drilling is required.

Additionally, the IQ Recessed Door S is protected by rolling code encryption, while the 5800MINI is unencrypted. Rolling code encryption makes it very difficult for others to hack or spoof the sensor. Meanwhile, the 5800MINI is unencrypted. Any transmission sent from the 5800MINI to the security panel will automatically be processed. This means that the device is technically vulnerable to hackers or spoofing, although this is relatively uncommon.

The only real thing that the 5800MINI and the IQ Recessed Door S have in common is the way they function. Both devices consist of a sensor and magnet. When the door or window opens, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause an internal reed switch inside the sensor to activate. When this happens, the device will send a signal to the alarm system which will provide the programmed response.
