Honeywell 5814 vs 5816OD
The Honeywell 5814 is an ultra small, wireless, one zone, door window transmitter. The 5814 is extremely compact with dimensions 1-1/2" H x 1-3/16" W x 5/8" D. As small as it is, the 5814 still provides an RF transmitting range of 100 feet. The 5814 has a built in reed switch, loop 1 normally closed. The 5814 provides most of the features a larger transmitter has. It is supervised, has tamper detection and low battery detection. The 5814 operates on one 3V coin battery and has a battery life of 3-5 years. The 5814 is not weatherproof and operates in temperatures that range from 32 degrees F - 120 degrees F. The 5814 installs easily and is surface mounted.
The Honeywell 5816OD is a wireless, two zone, outdoor transmitter. The 5816OD is very popular for use on sheds, gates and garages, to name a few. The 5816OD is weatherized for outdoor applications. The 5816OD operates in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to 150 degrees F and 100% humidity. The 5816OD provides 2 loops, loop 1, normally closed is for hardwire contact (all 3 wires need to be connected). Loop 2, is for the built in internal reed switch, normally closed (to be used with a magnet). Users can use both loops or only one. The 5816OD can be painted to match exterior colors using a universal paint. The 5816OD is UL and Canada UL listed for residential burg and fire. The 5816OD has a 200 foot RF transmitting range. On either the 5814 or the 5816OD a Honeywell repeater can be added for additional RF range. The 5816OD also has tamper detection, low battery detection and is supervised. The 5816OD can be surface mounted on either flat or rounded surfaces. If mounting on a flat surface, the included screws should be used. Mounting on a rounded surface like a fence post, using self locking strap ties are recommended. The 5816OD operates on two lithium 1.5VDC AA cells and has a battery life of up to 5 years. When replacing batteries both batteries should be replaced at the same time.
Both the 5814 and the 5816OD are excellent choices for certain applications.
