Honeywell 5834-4 vs 5834-2
The Honeywell 5834-4 and 5834-2 Key Fobs are basically identical devices. The only real difference is that the 5834-4 has four buttons and can support eight commands. But the 5834-2 has two buttons and can only support three commands. Both devices work with the same security systems.
Both the 5834-4 and 5834-2 are part of the Honeywell 5800 Series of wireless devices. Both communicate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, and both work with the same security panels. These include panels from Honeywell and 2GIG. Both devices have a range of about 50 feet, but this range can be extended to about 100 feet using a compatible wireless repeater. Both devices have easily identifiable buttons for arming and disarming. And both key fobs can be secured to a key ring.
But the main difference between the 5834-4 and the 5834-2 is that the 5834-4 has four buttons, while the 5834-2 only has two buttons. The 5834-4 has labeled buttons for arming away, arming stay, disarming and triggering a panic. The 5834-2 only has labeled buttons for arming away and disarming. This obviously means that more commands and functions can be used with the 5834-4 than the 5834-2.
The 5834-4 will support up to eight different commands, while the 5834-2 will only support three different commands. The reason that these devices can support more commands than available buttons is because of dual-button presses. The 5834-4 has four different dual-button combinations that can be programmed with a system. And on the 5834-2, a third possible command exists by pressing and holding both buttons on the device at the same time.
The third command on the 5834-2 is usually programmed as a panic. But since the 5834-4 already has a labeled panic button, the dual-button presses are often used as triggers. Each individual button command will need to be assigned to a system zone in order to be used. This is true for both single-button and dual-button commands.
