Honeywell Lyric Controller vs. Honeywell LYNX Touch Systems
The Lyric Controller and the LYNX Touch Systems are all wireless alarm systems from Honeywell. They all operate in a very similar manner. The Lyric is the newest and most robust of these systems. But most LYNX Touch Panels can still be used very effectively in a modern security setup.

If you purchase a new LYNX Touch Panel, you will most likely get an L5210 or an L7000. Both of these systems offer great performance and an outstanding user experience. However, the LYNX Touch Series also includes the L5200, the L5100 and the L5000. Both the L5200 and the L5100 can also be used very effectively in an alarm setup. While the L5000 can technically be used as well, it is a little more difficult to get it up and running. But if you do decide to purchase a new LYNX Touch System, we recommend choosing an L5210 or an L7000.
That said, none of the LYNX Touch Systems are quite as advanced as the Lyric Controller. While most of the LYNX Touch Panels can do everything the Lyric Controller can, the Lyric requires fewer add-ons. The Lyric will not need a separate Z-Wave controller or a WIFI communicator since these features are already built-in. But if you want to use WIFI or Z-Wave devices with a LYNX Touch, the appropriate add-on will be needed.
The Lyric Controller is also the only one of these panels that can use the fully encrypted Honeywell SiX Series Sensors. However, both the Lyric and the LYNX Touch Panels can interface with the unencrypted 5800 Series Sensors. Additionally, the Lyric and the LYNX Touch Systems will all require a cellular module to use cellular communication. A monitoring plan that includes cellular communication is also required.
If you are looking for a new Honeywell Panel, we recommend choosing a Lyric Controller. The main benefits of the Lyric are that it will support encrypted sensors and a greater number of wireless zones and user codes. It will also require fewer add-ons. But if you want a slightly cheaper option, both the L5210 and L7000 are great choices as well. And if you already have a LYNX Touch, then you should be fine without having to upgrade to a Lyric.
