How can I connect to a Honeywell L5100 with an iPad?
The Honeywell L5100 wireless alarm control panel is capable of being controlled wirelessly by an iPad. Using the L5100 Connect app, which you can buy from the Apple Store, and the L5100-WIFI alarm communicator, you can connect to the unit locally. This allows an user to control the system from within the range of their wifi signal. For those that want control of their L5100 remotely, there are other options.
In order to utilize your iPad to control L5100 remotely, you would have to add the ILP5 internet alarm monitoring communicator, the L5100-WIFI module or the GSMVLP5-4G cellular alarm communicator and subscribe to AlarmNet's Total Connect 2.0 interactive services. This service is provided by a Honeywell AlarmNet dealer only. The ILP5 would need a hardwired Ethernet connection between your router and your L5100 alarm control panel. The L5100-WIFI connects wirelessly to your router and the GSMVLP5-4G uses wireless cellular communicators.
With any of the options, your iPad could send wireless commands to your L5100 using the AlarmNet communications network. Once you have an AlarmNet Total Connect 2.0 account set up, you can access your L5100 from your iPad using the Total Connect 2.0 application which can be downloaded from the app store. Total Connect 2.0 will allow you to arm or disarm your system remotely, pull up a complete virtual keypad allowing you to check the status or perform any function, and even set up email or text notifications for any system change or event. Alternatively, you can use the Honeywell MID-7H Android WiFi tablet to locally control the L5100 using your local wireless network.
